The reception is an hour away from the church....

The reception is an hour away from the church....

...is that too much. My church is in Queens and the reception would be at The Vanderbilt (an hour away). Is it too much to ask people to go that far.

I don't think so. My reception hall (Manor East) is about 40-45 minutes from my church which is in Brooklyn.

Not at all. My church is in Hewlett and my reception in Great River - a 45-50 minute drive. People will do it, don't worry. The only annoying thing we've experienced is that our limo price is high because we need a lot of overtime.

That is not true for me. My limo price is not higher. I did not need that much OT.

My church is in Floral Park, and my reception is in East Northport, a distance of about 40 minutes. We have 2 1/2 hours between the church and cocktail hour, so I dont think it will be a problem for the guests.

Thats what i was worried about too, my reception is at Flowerfeild and its an hour away from where i live, i was worried people would get lost, or not want to travel so far, but its a wedding and they have enough notice with the invite to figure out where the place is.

I think the only problem you may have is that people will not attend the ceremony. I don't think I would (depending on who's it was). Just my opinion.

I was originally worried about this too...it seems to me that where this is the case many people will not attend your ceremony. PLUS...remember, depending on the time of year...i LI...traffic is a REAL ISSUE

I definitely worried about that also and in the process cut out some of my choices from my list because of the distance. My church is also in Queens so I had to cut out the beautiful vineyards and others out in the hamptons. Lucky we found something that we totally fell in love with that was only about 20 minutes away!!

Don't freak.
My guests will have to drive at least 40 minutes. They have to go from Huntington to Oakdale. No biggy.

jenny2penny, maybe our guests will run into each other if they all get stuck in Labor Day weekend traffic I am trying not to worry about it too much, like the weather I cannot control traffic so whatever will be, will be.

i don't think it's too far at all. the only issue will be if the weather turns bad in early January.

Labor Day girls I feel your pain. The reason why I am worrying so much is that I am planning on July 4th (Sunday evening) so I am worried about the weekend traffic. But the reception will be at 7:00 so maybe by then it will not be too bad :)
