i've never had a facial before, and i've been thinking about it for the sake of eliminating clogged pores from my wedding photos. so here are my questions:
(1) does it hurt? (2) should i expect to break out (like i do when i get my eyebrows waxed) (3) do they have a lasting impact? (4) who do you recommend?
ETA: sorry about the forgotten E in the poll choices. i wonder why you can't edit the poll with the post.

Re: the skinny on facials (w/ poll)
(1) does it hurt? -It hurts a little bit especially when they are getting the blackheads out
(2) should i expect to break out (like i do when i get my eyebrows waxed) I never break out when I get a facial. I would mention that you have sensitive skin.
(3) do they have a lasting impact? I think in the long run they do definitley.
(4) who do you recommend? it depends on where you live.

It feels really great!!!! It only hurts when they try to take out the blackheads. I do not breakout after a faciel and I have sensitive skin. It is a refreashing feeling afterwards. I am going next week to get one. I would recommand the Red Door Salon by Elizabeth Arden.

Re: the skinny on facials (w/ poll)
(1) does it hurt? not at all. i mean....the extractions may be painful but no more then getting your eyebrows waxed
(2) should i expect to break out (like i do when i get my eyebrows waxed) i break out when i get my eyebrows done too! i didnt breakout after the facial...but i did eventually get pimples as usual
(3) do they have a lasting impact? it is supposed to make your face RADIANT the very next day. i didnt notice anything special
(4) who do you recommend? i had mine done at THE SPA at St Tropez
ehh.. It was $90 and i did NOT think it was worth it. i would have rather had a massage!!!
hope this helps. FM me if you have any more Qs

Maybe its me but everyone I know who has had one it hurt, you break out and are red forever, and their skin gets back to the way it was in a month or so. I would get a European one. They dont pop anything and it feels so good. Good luck!

that's what i've heard from people too, and i do have sensitive skin. the feedback from the other girls is encouraging, but i'm still on the fence.

Re: the skinny on facials (w/ poll)
(1) does it hurt? only if they have the squeeze out a blackhead/pimple
(2) should i expect to break out (like i do when i get my eyebrows waxed). if really depends on your skin, but if you go to someone good let them know your sensitive and they should be able to use stuff that won't be as harsh
(3) do they have a lasting impact? YES!! ever since I started going, I've have gotten compliments on my skin, that it looks brighter, even stopped wearing foundation because I felt I didn't need it anymore
(4) who do you recommend? I like DeNovo European Spa in Manhattan

Some spas has product for sensitive skin. I have sensitive skin and I have done facials and I have not one breakout. I believe sandalwood (LIW vendor) has something on sensitive skin.

I have to say that before I ever had one, I felt the same way that you did!! I didn't really think that it would do all that much. FMIL is an esthetician and she made me have one. I LOVED IT!!! IT WAS SOOOO AWESOME!!! Now I can't go too long without one!!
It definitely helps to have THE best esthetician as a FMIL!! I would highly recommend going to her. She works out of her home, she has a room downstairs and it's soo relaxing. Her cost is $70 for an hour and 20 minutes. I'm totally serious, she's amazing...definitely give her a try!! FM me if you want her number!! Good luck!!

Re: the skinny on facials (w/ poll)
I got a facial in AC and swear my face felt like it was on fire for about 2 days, it was red and looked like I had wind burn no break outs but I dont really break out to begin with.
Now my friend, who used to be an 'professional facial lady' (im at a loss for the name) gave me a facial shortly before the wedding and I was fine. And my skin glowed for about 2 weeks.

I had a facial about 3 weeks ago at the Sandalwood Day Spa in Massapequa. I highly enjoyed it, felt no pain, no reaction afterwards and was so relaxed and refreshed. I plan on going again next month and hopefully every other month before the wedding! Go for it!!!

Re: the skinny on facials (w/ poll)
So I have mild to moderate acne depending on what day it is. I've had a regular facial before and my face broke out and didn't seem to improve. Recently Ive been seeing a dermatologist and she recommended to me a Chemical Peel. It costs $100.00 It burns for like 3 min. but you hold a fan during that time. the whole thing is about 10 min. total. I left there and went straight to school No redness or anything. It does make your skin peel a little for about a week. I have gotten so many compliments on my skin. So basically it helps with acne, fine lines wrinkles and sun damage. SOO WORTH IT. Fm if you need anymore info.
