The sukcy-ness of my night last night

The sukcy-ness of my night last night

I was awoken at 4AM, upon Victor's return (he worked late), for him to tel lme that we had no water, bc the PIPES FROZE!! Ummm.
Eventually, he gambled, and we boiled bottled water, and he dumped it on the pipes- risking a burst. The water flowed, and we had to run the bathroom sink all night so it wouldn't freeze again. When I left for work, I had to leave the water running!
I hate my apartment. It is too small, and the heat doesn't work- we need ot run a space heater. The bathroom and closet are always FREEZING. And in order to run anything- my microwave or vacuum, I need to unplug the heater, or the circuit will trip.
We thought we would be saving crazy $$ by living here, and it's an apartment in his friends house, but I am OVER THIS! In orde rto stay, Victor is going to have to spend his limited free time, working on the apartment, because he is an electrician, and handy, and his friend isn't so much. And it's NOT OUR HOUSE! He doesn't want to waste 4 hours upgrading the whole circuit panel!
So, I am now apartment hunting, because I deserve normal living conditions. I am not an animal.
If anyone hears of anything in teh West Islip-ish area, that will allow a big dog- or better yet- has a private yard so I don't have to go back to walking my dog at midnight and 7 AM, please let me know.

omg this happens to me.

for some reason after all the work we did on the house, the pipes frooze at the spot where the water connects to the house from the street.

twice it happened.

we used a blow dryer to unfreeze them

thank the heavens it didnt freeze in the wall

anyway we bought some thing that wraps around the pipe and warms it - I really have no idea what it is. I could find out.

we also have a heater thingie - we ran it last night in front of that spot - just be sure.

it's going to warm up this weekend, so you should be ok.

I know how stressful that is. Good luck with your search. I will keep an eye out for ya.

The pipe wrap thing Victor knows about, but he's also angry about doing even that. This place is just baaaaad.

beach

that's the part I like.
I know it's far, but we will be buying a house soon anyway, so maybe spending a year in LB would be a fun way to say goodbye to our pre children lives.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, that's really irritating!!!!!!!! They're your landlords, friends or not, you're paying them rent and THEY should be taking care of these things, not you or Vic!!!!!!!!

Glad you have enough sense to get the he!! out of there, good luck apartment hunting!!!

Holy moley YES move to Long Beach!! We would be neighbors.

Anything you want to know, just ask. We've been there for 6 years. As a matter of fact, when we move out, you can have our place.

A green neighbor would be soooo fun!
Unless you are moving next month. In that case, I will totally steal your digs.
Is it $$$$?

Re: The sukcy-ness of my night last night

When I moved in, it was $1500 for the ground floor of a house - 2 bedroom with a driveway. All except electricity/cable/phone included.

Now, the rents are much higher, obviously - I think $1700 would probably be normal for a two bedroom? But renting in the winter is a great idea because in summer, LB becomes the 'it' place for the beach, and rents go up for a few months.

Summer parking is beyond impossible, so a driveway or parking lot is sweet. The West End is younger and has a lot of places to eat and drink.

The East End (where I live) is quieter, and has more families. But you're never far from Park Avenue and the stores.

Realtors are the name of the game there, they have all the good places. That's how we found our place, but the realty we used is out of business.

Next time I go into the supermarket, I'll see if there are any apartments for rent posted. What are you looking for - 1br, 2br? I know there is at least one pet-friendly apartment building down by the water, I'll see if I can find out which one it is.

Check it. Wurd.

Probably more than what you want, but Craig's List is probably a great resource.
