The trash talking is over--LONG

Ok, here's the deal and I've given this some thought.

I've been leading the charge, more than most in the 'trash-talking' department and it started out in good fun, but I see that the more we do it, the more there's a chance that someone's going to take it the wrong way and then we broil down into the dredges of controversy.

LIW has done a great thing by giving us our own Met and Yankee boards. I think we were cluttering up the NWR board anyway. Let's make the most of them. Let's make the Mets board conversations that are pro-Mets and the Yankee board conversation that are pro Yankees. Fans of one or the other should not be going on the other board talking smack and asking for problems, myself included.

I can't help the fact that I take baseball seriously and have a passion for my team. My dad was and is a Met fan, my wife is a Met fan so following the team connects all of us. My dad used to take me to Met games when I was a kid, so there are lots of memories there.

I have very strong opinions about the Yankees, its fans, how MLB deals with it etc. But, we could go round and round on this forever and someone will always get offended and then someone, likely me, will wind up saying the wrong thing and getting banned and I don't want that to happen. I wish I had the suaveness that OctGroom has, but I don't. Just my nature.

FeliciaDA, you're not included in this, we understand each other. So, I'll still do the trash talk, but via FM.

I will not apologize for anything I have ever said on these boards. I will apologize if anyone has ever taken it the wrong way. I just get steamed when people celebrate their team's victories and slam the other team in the process. For example, if the Yanks win, there's no reason to laugh if the Mets lose. I'm as guilty as the next person on this and I've done it too.

So, going forward, I'll be on the Met boards posting pro-Met threads, not bashing the Yanks. I can't speak for the other Met fans, but I won't come over here anymore to stir the pot. I only hope that this board sticks to just praising the Yanks and not bashing the Mets and I hope that Yankee fans stay off the Met boards if your intent is to cause trouble.

We'll be talking on NWR I'm sure about non-baseball topics and I look forward to that.

I HATE THE TRASH TALKING!

It is stupid, childish, and a waste of time. Honestly I could care less how the Mets are doing, but I hope they do well because they are a NY team and I have friends who root for them.

I only hope that your fellow Mets fans will follow suit.

You are awesome, Don . You know that I, for one, never took what you said to heart .. nor was I offended by what went on between us (since I dish it out towards the Mets and their fans as much as you do). But yes, I think for the sake of these boards and keeping peace between all of us LIWedding'ers, your idea is a good one. I totally respect you for initiating this thread, and will also agree to keep off the METS board as well as limiting baseball talk to these boards, as opposed to the general NWR one.

The main thing here (and what we've always agreed on) is the mutual respect we have for each other regarding the love for our respective teams. You are passionate about the Mets, which I think is great and I give you many kudos for. My FH is the same -- he's lived most of his adult life in California and Michigan, yet has ALWAYS been a Mets fan.. how can you flaw someone for such loyalty? And I think you respect the Yankee fans here such as PrincessRose, Jenn524, myself (and so many others who I haven't named) who are intelligent, well-spoken and most of all LOYAL to our team as well.

Of course, I'd be terribly disappointed if you didn't FM me to 'dish it out' against the Yanks every now and again ... hehe I'll only ask that in the spirit of this thread, that you kindly wait until the REAL STRESS in my life is over (my wedding in 2 weeks) before trashing my boys (in private) again

Don, I'm sorry that it had to come to this but I think you're doing the right thing. I know you're a diehard Mets fan and I respect you for your loyalty to the team. I will not go onto to the Mets board to bash them. I may go on to chime in a view point on something, but I think I've proven before that I'm not one to bash. I like to discuss baseball in general so if you get a good discussion going there I might add some comments. But I wont bash.

It's too bad because the trash talk keeps it fun for me, but that's ok, I totally understand your standpoint. I'll just continue to trash talk to my lovely FH who's come down with the plague of being a Red Sux fan (Ok, had to get the last bit of LIW trash talk out, I'm done, I swear!)
