I am rewriting the post to only include the facts of my interacting with Mia the hair and make-up artist not to tell you what to do but letting all the brides know my honest opinion. When we give a bad review on a vendor it is important to only state the facts and dont state 'Beware or Dont Trust' so that it is not slander and the post dont get removed. This way we as brides can see the positive and negative of all vendors. I have already heard bad stories about Mia but since I wrote the last post I have received numerous FM from brides that had BAD experiences with her that have not written about it and I think that is the only way we get a fair review (from nasty threatening email, to no call or show, to not returning money, etc). I booked all of my vendors based on reviews from this board. I booked Mia in 2007 based on all of the things I heard about her without doing a trial. I kept asking for a contract and I would continue to receive emails back saying 'consider this your contract'. Anyway, about seven months later I booked a trial and was determined to get a contract from her. The first trial was cancelled about an hour before I was suppose to meet her. The second trial Mia showed up about 45 minutes late and blamed (her assistant) which is the excuse I heard she gives many brides. I should have taken this as a warning, but I didnt and she did a good job so I asked for a written contract. I know she doesn't usually give written contracts because she was looking all over to find one and told me she would mail it but I told her I will wait. she wrote on the contract that she would do 10 makeup and 5 hair plus the bride. Fastforward to a couple weeks ago, my coordinator calls her to schedule a time line for the girls since she said they take a half hour each and she was bringing two assistants plus herself, I know make-up should not take more than 2 and half 3 hours. Mia proceeds to say, ' cant her girls go to the hair dresser the night before the wedding, I dont have anyone for hair' then I tell her this is not okay. The next conversation she says well 'I can come at 11 and only do the bride and her mother, I dont have someone to do all those girls, she added a lot of people.' I called Mia after this and she didnt answer or call back so I emailed her coordinator to find out what is going on because I have a written contract that says the number of people she was doing , even though I'm sure she doesn't remember giving me a contract. This is the reason she doesn't normally give one...... Mia's assistant tells me that since I have a contract Mia will have to start the girls at 5AM. Now she knows there is NO WAY anyway does make-up at 5AM for a ceremony that starts at 5:30 PM. I email the assistant back and tell her this is not okay and Mia needs to call me. This is because now that she realizes I have a written contract she knows she has to do it so all of a sudden she can find people but they have to come at a CRAZY time so they can get to the other wedding she has booked on my day. Mia then calls my coordinator (not me) and tells her to let me know I have three options. 1. The girls are started at 5am and there is a fee for anyone that is late. 2. She only does myself and my mother. 3. She gives me back my trial fee and deposit and forget the whole thing. Thanks to the wonderful brides I have met on this site, I found an amazing make-up artist and I know someone wonderful for hair. When I cancel Mia, she states that since I took over a week to get back to her she is only giving me back the trial money and not the deposit, which I really dont care about but it's the principal. She has an ATTITUDE and she does not even apologize. How on earth can I find a make-up artist and hair stylist for myself and my bridal party for memorial day weekend in 1 WEEK? She knew that was crazy. Because I dont want this post removed again I will just say that I would NEVER book a vendor again without a written contract stating not only the number of people but the time. I also wish I knew the stories that I am hearing now BEFORE I booked this artist. There are so many talented make-up artist and hair stylist and I would never want to put time, energy and money into a vendor that would do this to someone weeks before there wedding.
FM me with any questions or details

Re: THE TRUTH ABOUT MIA
I am really sorry you had a bad experience with Mia... Its terrible what happened to you and how you were treated... No one deserves that.
Im just playing devil's advocate here, but ladies bear in mind, this is 1 girls experience. It doesnt mean Mia is a horrible person, terrible MU artist and no one should trust her. What about the hundreds of girls that RAVE about her? Like it just fascinates me how everyone is so quick to jump to attack her. I seen one girl post that she had a postivie experience with her and like me was sorry this poor girl didnt. So far, Mia has been nothing but wonderful to me and did an INCREDIBLE job at my trial. =/ So I cant complain.
Again Im VERY VERY sorry you had such a bad experience, its unprofessional of her to have treated you the way she did. And I wouldnt wish for ANY bride to be stranded without a MU artist weeks before her wedding. AND I Also know what its like to be treated TERRIBLY by a MU artist. My first trial was a TOTAL disaster.
Dont attack me here Im just trying to show both sides. ya know? =/

I completely get where you're coming from. However, I think the problem is that negative reviews don't really seem to last too long here, so there might be other negative reviews that we don't know about. And I don't just mean that about M*I*A; I think it can be hard to make an informed decision about ANY vendor (or anything for that matter) if both sides aren't accessible.

Re: THE TRUTH ABOUT MIA
I contacted MIA via email and left her two voicemails about my wedding to see f she was available for my date. It took her more than a week to at least get back to me with a yes or no answer and it was through email. I kind of got turned off by the fact it took 7 days to get a response. Every other vendor I've contacted got back to me the same day or the next. Just made me think if god forbid I really needed to get in touch with her I'd have to wait 7 days?
Just my two cents.

Trust me it is not ONE bad review... There were 08 brides that had problems with her and so many brides that are telling me the drama with her that they didn't want to post or the post didn't stay up long enough for others to see because it was pulled.

Re: THE TRUTH ABOUT MIA
First, I'm so sorry for all this happening to you but at least you found someone else quickly. Best of luck to you on your wedding day!
Also, I just want to say I really appreciate your post. You were not harsh but you also didn't hold back. You stated all the facts and I think thats great. Sometimes when you see bad reviews its just a person bashing the vendor. You were courtesy but got your point across. We should all remember how to write a judgemental review in the future.
Thanks again and Good Luck!

There are a lot of girls who love(d) her and from what I see she does do great work but as I've stated on the previous thread which was removed, I had a bad experience with her and so did a few other 08 girls. The threads that say negative things about her are usually removed so not many people get to hear about it.

Re: THE TRUTH ABOUT MIA
exoticbride2b I am in the same boat as you. I have contacted her, but have not gotten a definite answer.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I am so sorry you had to go through this before your wedding and I'm so glad you were able to find someone else. I just want you to know that it really helps us girls who are on the fence with booking vendors. I know this type of experience may not have occured with everyone who has worked with her, but it's always great to hear the good AND the bad.
Thanks!

Re: THE TRUTH ABOUT ***
I had a trial with her and like a dope I gave her a deposit. Once I decided I didn't want to go with her she would not return my deposit. I never said anything on here because people rave about her work and I didn't want to interfere.
I just want to say this: There are other really good make up vendors out there. I used Laura Allocca and she was so nice, so attentive and did an incredible job! FM me for more info.

Re: THE TRUTH ABOUT ***
I am so sorry you went through this Thank you for sharing this with the other brides on here. It is so important to get both sides of the story when paying a wedding vendor. To be honest, this is the first negative post I have read about her...and I don't know how much your deposit was, but you should get it back, like you said, just on principle..have you tried the BBB or a lawyer's letter?
P.S. *** is not a vendor here...I believe she was at one time but there was a problem (not sure what...I have read different stories so who knows)and for a while her name was ***ed out (so this post should not be pulled since she isn't a vendor right??lol).

well this one is not a good one and it stayed....its all in how you word things...the ones that get deleted are the ones that say 'don't hire such and such, they are horrible!'

That's not exactly true...if the vendor is a vendor here and reads a post they don't like for whatever reason, they contact liweddings and the post or review is removed...it shows up as 'edited.' It's happened a lot here

I'm so sad to hear about this experience you had with M*I*A especially since I was one of the one's who highly recommended her to you. I had such a wonderful experience with her and am upset to hear that you went through all of this.
