Soooo.... I'm not from NY so I'm coming a week early before my wedding to meet with all the vendors and finalize everything. Last night I decided it was time to book hotels, and guess what? 80% of the hotels in the area are fully booked for the night before and night of my wedding!
My wedding is at West Point (which isn't exactly the most up and coming tourist spot), ansd when we planned our wedding date, we made sure West Point had nothing going on that weekend to ensure our guests could find hotels..... Welll.... it turns out... the 15 - 21st in the US Open in Farmingdale NY!!! AHHH It's an hour and 40 mins away from our wedding and still effecting all the hotels I don't really know what to do because 95% of our guests are OOT and most will procrastinate until the last minute to find a hotel, and I'm afraid all of them will be booked!! So I'm afraid a lot of guests will cancel last minute. Do you think it would be rude of me to call people who RSVP Yes and explain to them about the US Open and make sure they've booked a hotel?

Re: The vote to cancel the US Open
2010 Crashing...
A lot of the families of students up at West Point are probably coming in for the open and that might be why the hotels are booked up.
I think you would be doing then a favor to call and notify them of the hotel situation.

I don't see anything rude about advising your guests of the need to book hotels quickly because of the US Open.
I'd keep checking back with the hotels. They may wind up having cancellations. Also, are there any B&Bs in the area?

Re: The vote to cancel the US Open
were you trying to do a Hotel block for your guests? if you were I would write a little note saying that its a popular season and they have to book the rooms by a certain date.

Of course there's nothing rude about calling people and letting them know that the US Open is that weekend and they need to book hotels ASAP. I think as a guest, I'd appreciate the heads up.
