Does anyone have any experience with them... good, bad, indifferent? I have been having some conversations with them about having a reception there and have not been too pleased with their attitude.

The Water`s Edge in LI City - Long
I looked at the Water's Edge for my reception and recently ate in the restaurant. It definitely is a nice place but there were a few things I didn't like.
1. You had to pay for valet
2. You have to use their florists
3. You have to pay extra for a bridal assistant and bathroom attendant even if you don't want them.
4. The cocktail room is the same room as the reception.
On the other hand it is very well kept, pretty room, views are great and the food is good. Not to mention that the shuttle boat is so cute.

The Water`s Edge in LI City - Even Longer :-)
My feelings exactly. Those additional costs (valet, attendant) really added up! I would be using the restaurant portion since my wedding is small (approx. 100) which is only available on Sunday. Also, when I asked about where I could go to have a little piece and quiet for a little while (i.e., bridal suite) they told me that they would 'clear out the office' and I could use that?!?
Oh... the kicker... if you like, you can 'rent' the boat for the day to shuttle your guests from Manhattan (there and back) at a cost of..... $6000!!!! I was floored. I think I am stronly leaning against this place.

Re: The Water's Edge in LI City
I almost booked with this place, but in the end decided against it. The view is incredible, I was going to book the restaurant. I have gotten reports that in the long run the Food is not that great and obviously the neighborhood isn't fantastick either. If you do not totally love it, go elsewhere.

I think the neighborhood is fine. But I think the main reason people use it is for the view. JMO.

Re: The Water's Edge in LI City
i looked at this place and i didn't like it at all, first of all the guy who was showing us around was stuckup and unhelpful, i don't like the look of the outside of the place at all, they tried to tell me they could fit 250 people in half the room for the cocktail hour, no way!!, the valet was expensive, need i go on.....IMHO the only thing this place has going for it is the view at night

I have to agree and say that the Waters Edge is a beautiful and elegant place. We went to a christening there and the cocktail hour was outside. The food was very good as was the service.

Re: The Water's Edge in LI City
I am looking out my window right now from my apartment (35th floor) and can see the Water's edge - it's about half a mile away I guess. . . The view is incredible and I think the food is great, but very expensive.
Regarding the neighborhood - I absolutely love long island city, but aesthetically it's not for everyone. The waterfront area was originally zoned for commercial space only, so it's only in recent years that they've torn down the old warehouses and put up high rise apartments. On either side of the Waters edge are empty lots that are in various stages of construction. In the next year or so there will be 4 or 5 luxury buildings constructed on either side of Waters Edge. . . the waterfront area by my building is absolutely gorgeous - but looking out my window in the direction of waters edge I see a landscape that is a huge construction zone.

Re: The Water's Edge in LI City
I am thinking about having my reception at Water's Edge as well. I have been working with Danielle, and she has been super nice, and very friendly! I would be doing a small affair inside the restaurant... Sunday night...80-90 people. I have not had dinner there.. but I went in for drinks one night... the restaurant was soooooo beautiful, and the cosmo I had was worth it. ~Gennie (a very new, recently obsessed wedding planning bride )

Re: The Water's Edge in LI City
I have been to a wedding there and had a terrible time. The food at the restaurant is different from what they give at a wedding. It wasn't good at all. The service worst than you get at a dinner. The place was dark (downstairs room) and too small for the amount of people, they had 140. The quality of sound is very bad. Always loved the place, but after being to that wedding changed my mind. The only nice thing about it is the view. That's all. One more thing, we waited for the valet guy to bring our car for about 24 minutes (I checked my watch).

When was the wedding that you attended? When I spoke with the person there she said it would not fit more than 100 people.
