The whole law of no smoking in public places

The whole law of no smoking in public places

I had bowling tonight and every Thursday when I come home I have to take a shower and febreeze my clothes before I can put them in the hamper because I completly reak of cigarette smoke.

I dont smoke so this law benefits me as a non smoker. I am so glad to have come home tonight and not smell of cigarettes

Though I am not entirely selfish, I did however feel bad for the woman who do smoke because they had to keep changing their shoes or put their little booties on to protect their bowling shoes to go outside to have a cigarette. Some even sneaked into a bathroom just to get a puff.

I was very happy to see that the establishment posted signs all over the place and even made an announcement over the loud speaker reminding bowlers of the law.

they've had that law in CA for years - I LOVE it! I'm so glad NY has it now too. I hated coming home from bars reeking of smoke.

I actually just conducted a research for one of my classes and found that the smoking ban will not decrease sales and will probably in the end contribute to an increase in sales. Many people I know hate going to bars because of the smoking factor.

I feel bad for smokers as well. But I also feel bad for me having to put up with second hand smoke. Eventually the smokers will adjust, just like they have with every other public ban.

I will speak for the smokers. FH smokes too, and we argue about this all the time.

Even though I smoke, I hate having people smoke around me while I am eating. Although I smell like smoke anyway, it is that much worse when I leave a bar. I don't smoke in my car or apartment because I don't want them to smell.

I do not blame non-smokers at all for wanting clean air, and I don't mind having to go outside.

Do some research on secondhand smoke and you will be glad that they have passed this law. What they are doing to your lungs is far worse than them having to change out of their bowling shoes to go smoke outside. Trust me, the statistics are scary.

really an increase?? WOW! I knew so many people that quite smoking when they started charging 7 bucks a pack (they said it just got too expensive and 7 bucks a pack smoking 1 - 2 packs a day just isnt worth it)

I agree they will definatly adjust.

Where is it 7 a pack? I still pay $4-5.

I saw it in Manhattan

I think what really amazes me is when I see smokers outside in December 1 foot of snow on the ground, wearing layers on top of layers, shivering and smoking.

I am rushing to get inside the building and they are inhaling and exhaling as quickly as they can

That is horrible. I remember when it was $1.95. I always swore I would quit when it hit 5.

In Fl its about 3 dollars a pack. I told my cousin this and she told me the next time I go to FL I better pick her up a few cartons

Re: The whole law of no smoking in public places

We always buy cartons down there. It is some much cheaper. I think I am going to quit right after the wedding (or right before- a bride with a cigarette looks nasty IMO)

I agree a bride with a cig just doesnt look pretty

My friend smokes and the day of her wedding I think she had 3 cigarettes (when she got up, when her hair was finished and at the very end of the night after she took her dress off)

Yes, that will be me. I will sneak into the bridal suite.

The whole law of no smoking in public places is a pain in my ass, is a stupid, nonsense facist law and the mayor of this city and the governor of this state are flat out WRONG. It is asinine and stupid to legislate a LEGAL SUBSTANCE. It's akin to Prohibition.

All this and I smoke MAYBE a pack a week. If that. Health issues aside, it's none of the mayor's%^&*() business whether I smoke or not.

I'm not a smoker. However I can see both sides on this issue. The fact that I can go out now and not have to shower when I get home just so my sheets and pillows don't have that smoke smell to them is awesome. But I do feel bad for the smokers. I agree. They shouldn't be able to smoke ina restaurant. I think that is disgusting while you are trying to eat. But I think a bar shiuld be okay. JMO.

I am a smoker and I also hate smoke around me while I am eating and sometimes even in bars. I do think, however, that it should be up to the owner at each establishment to determine whether or not smoking should be allowed on his PRIVATE PROPERTY.

The mayor is way out of line here, but I guess it is to be expected from a reformed smoker!

Not to sound insensitive or anything but I am so happy for this law. If you, as a smoker chooses to endanger your life, why should you take me with you.

I am so happy this law has gone in to effect. I hate cigarette smoke so much. Chippa, we used to go to this bowling alley and there was smoke every where, we stopped going just b/c of that. I said to hubby maybe we should check it out now and see what its like with this new law in effect.

I am a darn happy camper with this law. I am sure workers who worked under these kinds of condition are very happy to be breathing easier.

I don't like this law either. I am a social smoker so it really doesn't affect me. But when I drink I tend to always have a cigarette in the other hand. However, I can't STAND waking up in the morning and my hair reeks of smoke...
Try $8 a pack in West Hempstead!! They were advertising it as if its a sale! FH swears he will quit now!
Thrilled I totally agree with you. They might as well make cigarettes illegal since its being banned.
