theme help

ok ladies so in my last post some one asked what r theme is. u ladies r the only ones I've told.... bc I. know it's crazy to some, hell even scary to some. I didn't want people to think I was so crazy they wouldn'tb talk to me anymore. but I thought about it, screw it if u judge me then screw u! so i need some ideas do if u dint mind helping me out

in case u didn't see I'm the last post let me explain my theme!
we r getting married on Fri the 13th so our theme is superstitions.... kind of like we can bet the odds no matter what is against us....

here is what We have so far.....
-fh is going to make s ladder arch way for us to walk under at church(if they let us) at the rh for our grand entrance and for us to sit under at dinner.
-fh is going to open an umbrella for our grand entrance ( want to get one of those just married one's so he can open it and show off the words on it)
- every table number still be 13 ( 13a, 13b, 13c etc so u can tell the difference in which table ur really at)
- the table number r going to be wooden numbers with broken mirrors on them ( found it on pintrest actually really pretty) (I tried ti insert a pic idk if it worked)
-the only other idea I had was instead of rice or bubbles give guest black cat confetti to throw ay is( idea being we well be crossing the ppath of black cats) & fh suggested putting a mirror in a cloth ( like the Jewish do with a glass) and break it... nite that we r going to b married in s church we had to scrap that...

so my question is so u think people will get it? Abd can u think of any other recognizable superstitions? thanks!

You could have salt shakers on their sides with salt coming out as part of your table numbers, to represent tossing salt over your sholder:
Toss spilled salt over your left shoulder

This superstition may have stemmed from a couple of places. The first one is the last supper. During the last supper Judas is depicted as spilling the salt. Thanks to this, spilled salt is associated with treachery and lies. If you do spill salt, a pinch thrown over your left shoulder is supposed to blind the devil waiting there. The second comes from a time when salt was valued very highly. In fact, people were once paid in salt. So the spilling of salt was seen as a waste. Remember that if you do spill the salt you are supposed to pick it up with your right (good) hand and throw it over your left shoulder.

You could also decorate with upside down horseshoes...the open side down...it is superstion that if the open side is down the good luck is running out.

oh maybe I could put salt shakers with spilt salt at the table with seating cards.....
my first thought in the very beginning was give the guest the salt shakers and have them toss salt at us as we leave the church... then I realized what I said...I dont want salt thrown at me lol

Yeah throwing salt would not be good, salt would hurt if it got in your eyes!

You could add the downward facing horseshoes to the ribbons on their bouquets.

This could be really awesome if executed the right way! I always feel like with actual themes (not just colors)... theres a fine line between meh/perfect/cheesy.

I saw an episode of 4 weddings where she did the table numbers was EACH superstition and how it originated. So black cat .. and then a framed explanation. Walking under a ladder... the number 13, breaking a mirror... and I thought it was cool to have the explanations to further explain to the guests how it came about.

thank u glad u like it! I'm wondering how many people r really going to get it though.
I'm afraid we will be leaving to the side of cheesy if we aren't careful. I wish I could see that 4 weddings episode!

I agree with katielynn, this can be really cool if done properly!

Check with your church on the confetti thing. A lot of churches don't even allow rice anymore (people can slip on it, plus I don't think it's good for the birds). But I love the idea of black cat confetti because I have a black cat and I keep trying to incorporate him into the wedding.

my mother's suggestion is to have people throw it at us a our grand entrance but we have one of those hidden staircases to walk out of so I don't think anyone will be close enough to us!
