Ok...my original plan was to do a fall themed wedding. But, as some of you know, I have moved my date up to labor day weekend. Popular consensus has been that a fall theme is still perfectly acceptable...but I've been trying to find another option (though in the end, I'm pretty much in love with the fall thing).
SO...my father was making some suggestions. He suggested a hollywood theme (totally brought back memoris of melayea or whatever her name was from Bridezillas with her 'celebrity' everything).
He also suggested a 'cruise around the world' theme. He says we could have someone standing in the lobby taking pictures as guests walk in, have tables named after different exotic places, and carry the theme into everything else (invites, favors, etc.) I think it would be great, but I'm not sure how easy it would be.
My dad is great with telling me to be creative and do something 'different' Which I'm all for. . .but I don't know if I could pull it together and make it look classy and sophisticated and not cheesy. And of course, the idea is where his job is done...he had no other suggestions. He said 'Post it on your website...I bet everyone will love it and want to do it..' lol. He's too funny...
Anyone have any thoughts? Ideas? Comments?

The hollywood idea is cute. I think that can come off very classy. You could do the Hollywood Blvd stars as the place cards!

What a Wonderful Father you have! Hes got great Ideas! I like the Cruise Idea....only if you are taking a Cruise for your Honeymoon. It would tie in nicely

You've got a great dad. I like both of those ideas and think they can be pulled off in a classy way.
The cruise around the world could be done very nicely...maybe you could keep it to a part of the world...i.e. western europe...and maybe do like italy and greece

i think they both can be done.
hollywood... total 'old hollywood' total glam. i love it. as suggested above the gold stars for place cards.... people will love to see their name on a hollywood star.
the cruise... the pictures as they enter can become your guest book. with this what comes to mind is the color navy. there are wonderful 'boat' favors and decorations out there. i've seen boat placecards in crisp white card stock.
for the cruise idea, you might want to look into some cruise ship information. i have a co-worker whose sister will be getting married on a cruise ship next year. look into how they decorate for the weddings they have on board. you might get some 'nautical' ideas there.

ok here's my input. im most likely having an african inspired wedding and wanted to do different countries instead of table numbers but fh pointed out that it might be harder to find your table if there are words. so i dont know about names instead of numbers if it'll work

agreed. you might have to work harder to keep them classy and not borderline cheesy [i can imagine your concern]. marrying in july was my one regret in the FUN of planning because in reality, fall is MY season and i love all the adorable things you can do for fall.
explore his idea and see what you find. if not, you can do the fall theme.

I think either theme that your Dad came up with is appropriate for a wedding as long as you keep it elegant and classy.
I think the cruise theme is really fun, but more appropriate if you are going on a cruise for your HM as another bride said. However, you can make it an 'around the world theme' that is travel-related and would go with any HM you take.
AROUND THE WORLD THEME - You can name tables after destinations you and FH have been to, or wanted to see (for our nautical wedding, we named tables after oceans and bays).
Give out luggage tags for favors
Placecards shaped as boats or planes (we did boats for our wedding)
Invites or STDs designed to look like boarding passes
Drinks named after exotic locales or words like 'Bon Voyage'
I think you could have a lot of fun with this!
For hollywood themes, I think you should stick with Old Hollywood to keep it classy. A bride named leese did a similar theme:
