there's been a change in plans...

there's been a change in plans...

We've decided to get married in a church! Both of us have been going back and forth with the topic in our minds and I just feel like it will be such a beautiful, more meaningful ceremony. I contacted my church yesterday to speak with someone. I'm hoping our date has not yet been taken.

What kinds of questions do they ask when they call you back? She said a priest would be getting back to me on Monday, and I'm kind of nervous! What should I be expecting?

P.S. - I posted on the FB page not so long ago that we were getting married this year. Turns our there IS a way to file for domestic partnership. There will not be any interference with this, luckily!

Don't let the church know that you already have a venue. Some churches get very annoyed that they aren't first on your list and will give you a hard time. Other than that, just be ready to take FOCCUS (a test that isn't really a test as my priest said lol) and pre-cana (we actually really enjoyed this).

Yeah that's definitely one thing we were super aware of...even though we've had the venue since October!! Idk why but priests make me so nervous!!

P.S Katie, that may have been my intention ;)

I was going to say the same thing that PP said. Don't say that you have a venue already. Just pretend like you're looking for a date

He'll probably ask the standard questions like if you're both Catholic, confirmed, etc. The meeting is when they might ask deeper questions, such as if you're consenting to the marriage and if you plan to have children.

Don't be intimidated, though. Priests are people with flaws just like the rest of us.

Congrats on the choice to do church!! After we talked to the priest over the phone, he asked to meet with him so we can get get to know eachother..our priest wanted us to meet him every 2-3 months or so which was nice!

Congrats !!

When I spoke to the priest he wouldn't let us book the Church until we met with him. Once we got there he wanted to get to know us and asked us some bizarre questions but it was ok!

The first time we met with the priest he just asked if we were catholic, if our parents were catholic, just general questions. We let him know we had our venue and it wasn't a problem at all.

Nice!! congrats on that decision. At our first meeting we were split up and asked questions alone, but I think every parish is different.

I was thinking the same thing! LOL

FH and I registered as domestic partners back in 2007. It wasn't that difficult of a process from what I can remember. Good luck!
