Re: Thermostat Timer?
we got one of the LIPA thermastats installed this summer. Its only hooked up to our central air but could be used for the heat also (DH just has to go into the attic...yuk...and run the wire)
The best part is that it was FREE!! and we got a $25 check from LIPA (Im still not a fan of thiers!! LOL)
We can program our thermastat via email. Also, they can control it...it only happened 3 times this summer and we could ahve over ridden it if we wanted to.
We do have a Honeywell electric thermostat for our heat. its pretty simple to use and it works really well!!
Good Luck!

Re: Thermostat Timer?
I would call LIPA and ask them if the FREE thermostat is good for heat only.

Re: Thermostat Timer?
We have 2 zones for heating (no central AC yet!) and we put thermostat timers on each zone. I believe the ones we bought were Honeywell or GE (which I believe is the same company now). Since both of us are not home during the week, we can program it so that the heat is low while were not home and set it to come on before we arrive home. I believe that each unit we bought was about $80-$100 and DH installed them himself. Definitely worth the investment!

Re: Thermostat Timer?
We recently bought a Honeywell thermostat with timer from Home Depot. DH installed it himself...it didn't seem to complicated. It was about $ 30, I believe.
It's great being able to set temperature for times we are home and times we are away. The heat kicks on an hour or so before we wake up in the morning and before we get home in the evening.

Re: Thermostat Timer?
That's exactly why we want to purchase one.. It'll be soo much easier and there is no need in the heat pumping while we're not home and yet we can set it to be turned on in enough time so that it is warm by the time we get home =)

Re: Thermostat Timer?
My brother just installed two of them in our home. I don't know what 'brand' they are, tho. They are AWESOME - I love not having to think about or touch the thermostat at all anymore! We turn the heat downstairs waaaay low at night and then have it set to come back up before the baby wakes up. I highly recommend using them - especially if you have more than one zone, or two floors in your house.

Re: Thermostat Timer?
We have a timed thermostat too. My hubby installed it himself. It's great cuz when you get up in the morning it's nice and warm. When your not home you can set the temp. to be lower, and just when you get home it can be set for a warmer temp.
