They did it again! Soldier Killed.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Al-Jazeera television said Tuesday that Iraqi militants killed an American soldier they have held hostage since early April because the U.S. government did not change its policy in Iraq (news - web sites).

Pfc. Keith M. Maupin of Batavia, Ohio was captured in April during an ambush on a convoy west of Baghdad.

Pentagon (news - web sites) officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a videotape has surfaced in Baghdad that shows a person who was shot in the back of the head, but that the person was not identifiable.

will this ever end?
Is this the new way of life for us ???

Why am I oddly comforted by the idea he was shot instead of beheaded?

OK I am probably going to get flamed for this but I don't give any more! I have had it, we had stripped prisoners, had dogs barking at them, some ignorant soldiers took pictures with the prisoners in compromising photos and we were called Animals and other choice names and these soldiers were court-marshalled. Now these ANIMALS have strung our soldiers from bridges, beat them, beheaded several of our soldiers and men from other nations too and NONE of these other countries are saying anything about it but they were so quick to condem us! I am sick of losing our young men to these animals!!! I am sorry but it is just really bothering as I pray every night that my student that is over there is safe and doesn't suffer a similar fate.

DH's cousin in a Marine and may be in Iraq. Not sure, but I think he is. He can't really tell us where he is because he's a major and does top secret missions (seriously). Every time I read something like this I wonder if it's Thomas. He's got a 2 year old back home in California.

come on people........dont you realize that there is a WAR going on.........this is not a trip to the beach..........when people go into the military they know THERE could be a war, now yes i feel bad and it is wrong, BUT this is THERE job and they choose to do this........

A bit strongly said, but essentially I agree. It sucks he had to die that way, but Im very proud of him.

Still I agree, why call us monsters for 'mistreating' their prisoners when no one calls them a thing for beheading innocents?

Still I am happier it was quick for him. Thank god. So many worse ways to die in the hands of the enemy.

FYI, the marine wasn't killed (the marine hasn't even been confirmed kidnapped). This private is from the Army and has been missing since April.

i understand we are over there for a reason but enough is enough. it is heartbreaking and sickening to constantly watch these people, not just the Ameican soldiers but the foreign workers be taken hostage, beheaded and exploited on the Internet. Im sorry but it seems like some people in Iraq will never be happy with what happened. They will always have the extreme militants who believe in what they believe.. and will kill and terrorize their people as well as others around the world. it is a sad and scary world we live in. But we are so sheltered from it because we never had to experience was on our land.
The Iraqis cant wait for us to get out of their country. My ex boyfriend was a marine stationed over there until this past month and wrote me a 9 page letter telling me in detail about everything going on that the 'media' does not show. not a pretty picture.
this is just my opinion... They have their control now, lets start bringing the boys home before any more catastrophes happen.

Maupin was killed?? I was holing out hope for him..he was so young...so much life left in him..and I cannot even begin to imagine the tortue he has been thru since being kidnapped in April...Man O Man, I feel so sad for this kid and his family

I am at a loss for words. This is all just so sad.

oh yes i think they are doing a GREAT job, and i am very happy that there are people to protect us, and for that i comend them.......i was just saying that people do DIE in a war......so to that i say 'sad but true'

I believe if we just walk away it will collapse in on itself. We have to stay. You don't just hand back the reins on something this huge after this much distruction and say 'Ok here's your land back, minus a few buildings, plus a few extra problems and a few dead folks, but we hope your happy it's yours'

We have a duty to try to help this new government survive. I think we do need to leave but we can't just Pull out All holds bar. It takes time. I suspect we'll be around for at least the next 5 years if not longer.

Knowing the military, we'll probably not ever completely leave. We'll most likely have a base somewhere there 'just in case'.

Well a lot fo these beheadings are occurng in Saudi Arabia, the royal family of whch is chums with our own Mr. Bush, and we don't see Dubya demanding some kind of sanction...and yet, Iraq is in ruins because of us, and people are putting there anger and fear into supporting a war against people who have posed no threat to us, were NOT behind the 9/11 attacks and were not behind the beheadings. The car bombs in iraq are a few radicals, like the KKK or tim mcveigh is to us here, it's terrorizing the people of iraq more than it's hurting us... Contrary to what the media shows people in iraq led a peaceful normal life for the most part until last march...

If someone came in and disrupted my nations sovereignty, I'd fitght back too, but these aren't average citizens, they're extremist crazies..they're against the normal people of iraq as much as they'e against us.
