They said yes!

They said yes!

FH and I had planned to ask his sisters to be a part of our ceremony by asking them to read the Sheva Brachot (seven marriage blessings) in both Hebrew and English at the wedding. They both read and speak Hebrew. I had been very nervous about asking them because we knew they were upset about not being bridesmaids (neither are my sisters) and we did not want them to feel as if it were a consolation prize - it truly was not - it is a rather high honor to do this or so the Rabbi told us. Well tonight we asked them and they seemed rather honored to accept the offer. Last week we asked my sisters to stand guard outside of the bridal room immediately following the ceremony where we plan to break bread (known as Yichud) together for the first time. They accepted as well. My brother, is standing in for my father as he helps mom walk me down the aisle. So now we were able to incorporate all siblings in very meaningful ways and we are quite excited.

I went to a wedding last night where the bride's father had passed away and her brother walked her down with her mom. The siblings were all a part of the 7 blessings too. I thought it was a little overkill that they had 3 rabbis and 2 cantors though!

I think it will be perfect.

Thanks! I had asked my brother months ago (before Dad died) to help mom walk me down the aisle. I am not ready to have an empty arm. My brother was truly honored and still is to stand in for my father though I know in his heart he wishes he didn't have to. There will not be one dry eye in the house. We are our father's children. Daddy was a BIG TIME crier and so are the four of us kids. I MUST have waterproof mascara!

We are only having one Rabbi. We would love to have a cantor but as with anything, she comes with a price.

Neither FH nor myself have an affiliation with a particular congregation right now. We hope to once we buy a home. To join a temple while we are renting doesn't make sense to us as we don't want to establish a sense of community with good people to then have to pick up and leave should we buy in a different area.

I truly was. I felt more nrvous asking them then FH was when he proposed. We left it up to them as to whether or not they would like to read in Hebrew, English or both. They are very intelligent women who each spent significant time in Israel and thus are knowledgeable of the language. I can read but I have no idea what I am reading (most of the time). I actually know the vows in Hebrew because I have heard them so many times at the Jewish weddings I have already been to. I am bound to make a mistake though! Kind of like when my brother stuttered when he said 'For richer and p-p-p-poorer' at his second marriage. It was pure hilarity!

That's exactly my reasoning too. I was lucky enough that a rabbi in my FMIL's family is marrying us. I couldn't imagine using a rent-a-rabbi like my older brother did, but we're not ready to join a congregration right now.

We wanted to use a Rabbi in our family but she is due to give birth in December to twins so I think she may be a bit busy. So we went with the Rabbi at the temple and made sure we established some sort of relationship with him first so he knew us on some level.
