I found the photog of my dreams.. . Only problem is my wedding isn't until Aug 2011. The photog told me they only book 15months prior to the event & that 2011 prices aren't even made yet! Should i wait till May? I already cant sleep at night worrying my photog will be snatched. keep looking? Has anyone had this problem?
oh and, Does anyone have Matthew Sowas pricing for 2011? another option.

Don't worry about it ... call him back in May and book him then
remember that you can't book today ... but neither can anyone else

Photography is my #1 splurge so waiting this long kills me! Dress, I can wait. Music, I can wait. Flowers, definitely wait.

2011 is too far ahead to book anything except for popular RH's. Seriously. Take a chill pill. Most photographers don't book dates until 6-12 months prior to the wedding day, and some even as late as 3 months prior. You have LOTS OF TIME!.

Re: they say it's too early to book
I booked my photographer in April and I am getting married Jan 2011. It really depends on the company. I know booking early and getting it out of the way makes things alot easier. Thats why photography was the 1st thing i booked
Some of use dont think we have lots of time. So much goes in to planning a wedding one more check on our list is one less thing we have to worry about

hmmm....if they book 15 months in advanced then they should have the 2011 prices! Jan will be the one year mark for all the jan brides! so that doesnt make sense for him to say we book 15 months in advanced but doint have 2011 prices yet....are you def set on this photographer? have you looked at others??

Re: they say it's too early to book
Thats kind of annoying.. I was anxious to book a photographer. We had an appt with Duet and they cancelled on us b/c they were all booked up! So, that really made me realize we had to book our main vendors. Most people have said that July 2011 isn't as far away as it seems and that time goes by quickly!

This is not true- 2011 is not too far ahead to start booking! When I went to book with my photog, they said it was a good thing I was doing it early because they were open for my day. They were already booked for 5 days in July and they are a popular company. They showed me their calendars from end of 2010 and they were booked! Also, I have florists calling saying to put a down payment and they'll work on the flowers and the colors I decide later. Everyone wants your business and what's good about some places is that they'll give you the 2009/ 2010 prices if you book early. I got 2009 prices from my photog and free E-pics so I'm ecstatic- Do what you need to do.

Really??..I am so insane that I started booking everything all this year to get my 2009 prices,RH in Jan, DJ in March & Photo/Video in April, & Limos in December and yes, they all already had bookings for 2011..we all are well aware of 'how much time we have' but we like to do things early...to save money..
to the OP if you have your heart set on it then wait it out until their time that they will book even call them a few weeks early they really should take you by then. Or keep checking out some others in the meantime. Maybe it happened for a reason & you'll find another company that you will fall in love with

Re: they say it's too early to book
I think it's silly for anyone, person or company, to tell you it's too early to book. You're doing the smart thing by trying to book early, that way you get every vendor you want, you get that years price, and you have more time to pay off the money. Thank God noone has told me yet that I am booking things too early, or they would definitely hear my twocents, and probably not get my business. FYI: I forget which 2011 bride it was, but not too long ago she posted that her makeup artist of choice was already booked for her date!! I say, if you know what you want, the earlier the better!

We are date twins! =)
I booked Duet as my photographer and video in September! Obviously it was not 'too early' to do so! We definitely need to book popular vendors early! Plus I was able to get this years prices! I say book away! ;)

My wedding is in 2011 and I'm almost at my year mark. I just started helping my girlfriend look for photographers March 2011 and 2 different places told me they are booked on her date already. I don't see how it's too far away.

Re: they say it's too early to book
ummm wow that I must be really impatient. I booked Duet in March 2 years before my wedding. I have almost all my vendors booked except florist I guess hand over the chill pills. In this area with all the people who plan weddings if you want your dream vendor you need to book ASAP. I hate that peopel think 2011 is so far away to me the 459 days do not seem far at all

2011 is not far..we started looking at photo in the spring of this year and still haven't found one..none of them told us it was too early
I'd rather do it early than wait to the last minute and get stuck with someone I really didn't want

Re: they say it's too early to book
Jeez. Too freakin' sensitive over 1 remark. My point is - dont stress that you are running out of time. Asking vendors when they start taking bookings for 2011 is acceptable, but like OP said, some photo companies aren't accepting bookings until at least 15 months prior. Nothing wrong w/ booking early - but just don't lose sleep over it, that's all. I had 3 RH's that were already booked for my wedding day, I just went to another RH that had it - big deal. I think my worst nightmare in planning this wedding was not finding ANY available vendor to handle my bookings...Or at least, vendors that were worth my $$.. I talked to a few vendors who told me they met brides who didn't START looking at vendors until 6 months prior to the big day, esp for weddings with over 100/150 guests...Now THOSE brides are clueless!!
