I went for my 1 hour glucose test yesterday and I have to say it was pretty close to being on of the worst experiences of my life. Now as many of you already know I have been dreading this for weeks since I am probably the biggest baby in the world when it comes to needles. So I drink that orande soda stuff and wait an hour for them to call me in...They call me in the room (my mom follows....yes I had to bring her) I have a sit and the girl starts pulling out all of these enourmous viles. So she shes the fer on my face and says don't worry lets just hope you have good veins. She lifts up my sleeves and makes a face as if telling me my veins suck. So after minutes of feeling around my arm she finds a 'good' vein and puts that turnaquot thingie on. Then she reacher for this jumbo needle that is super thick and sticks me......I swear it was horrible...everythime she switched the vile the needle hurt more....It felt like an eternity...then she tells me she is half way there but that she has to take the turnaquot off because my vein is swelling...and there it is bulging out of my arm...I thought I was going to pass out...So finally after she sucks 13 super thick viles out of my arm she gives me a bugs bunny band-aid and sends me on my way....No my poor arm is so bruised that I look like an IV drug user....Please tell me that that is the only time I will ever have to do that.

Wow-when I went for my 1 hour glucose I only had about 3 vials of blood drwan so I don't know what else they we're testing for.

You think that is bad. Last weekend, they took 23 vials of blood from me! Had to use 4 different veins. I cried. It was HORRIBLE!!!!!!'

OMG...they wood have had to scrape me off the floor.
WHy are they taking so much blood?? I have never had more than 2 or 3 vials taken for any test...

I was almost on the floor. Had to call DH to pick me up. I couldn't drive after that. No warning, nothing. I was only going in for 4 blood tests, so I figured 4 vials. Well each test had 5 or 6 vials each.
She got upset becuase I started to cry and panic when she couldn't get any more blood from the first vien. So she went to pull the neeedle out and blood squirted out of my arm up in the air and then was dripping down my arm, which got me more hysterical. Oh it was horrible. I feel for you honey.
I then had to go back still another day. And I had one before this as well, that time for 7 vials. So it was 7, then the 23 vials, and then the other day for 4 more vials. That time, she remembered me and used a butterfly needle. I loved it. It is this teeniest needle EVER INVENTED, you don't even feel it. From now on I am asking them to please use a butterfly needle. She said it only takes a little longer to draw the blood but after 23 vials, I can handle 4. I know what you mean about it hurting each time she switched vials. All 23 of them. :(
P.S. What lab did you go to?

In my case, I am doing testing to find out why I have miscarried two times. My doctor asked for a full work up on me. Even the lab said they rarely see this kind of work up, but I guess in the long run its good becuase he is checking everything!

Everytime i went to quest i hated the needle they used.. my Dr office used a much better needle. I hate to get blood taken 5 different times the week before i was unduced.. and then when i was in the hospital they just kept taking blood...

How do you guys do it? As I am reading this I am getting sick to my stomach. I am the biggest baby and I am paranoid of needles. I don't know how I'm going to have kids. I feel queezy just reading your stories.

Hi...Just pray that you pass the test. If you have to take the 3 hour test they will draw blood from you 4x (before they give you the drink then every hour)

Wow - that really is a lot of blood!!! I feel a little icky when they take 3 vials - I thought that was a lot!!!! I'm sorry you have to go through all of that...... Oh, and I usually have my blood taken right at the dr. office, and they never hurt me, but once I had to go to Quest and it was a totally different story! Good luck!

Now, hopefully, through all this they will find out the reason for my miscarriages and fix it and then I can start TTC again! It will be all worth it in the end! :)
