things I wish people would stop telling me....

Original post by MrsK2008

1) ' You have to give Jordan Almonds! They are for luck!!'

if I was lucky I would have won the lottery and sent Jordan Almonds around the world. Those things are expensive; and seriously who eats them anyway?

2) ' You have to invite every female that is invited to the wedding to your shower!'

seriously, no thanks. Why should I expect people to spend more money on us?

3) 'The cocktail hour is the most important part of the reception.'

I would like to think just being there is relevant.

4) 'You should wear something old, something new BLAH BLAH BLAH'

I don't care about tradition, I am not superstitious and what YOU did has nothing to do with me.

5) 'Your mom should not wear white on your wedding day!!'

My wedding, I can do whatever I want and she can wear whatever she wants. Now, if it was FMIL I would throw down like WWE and get all pissy!

6) 'You should get a band instead of a DJ. People can here DJ's everyday on the radio.'

FH and I do not like bands at all. This is one thing we have agreed on. We absolutely love our DJ and MC.

7) 'You shouldn't be so hard on your cousins, their lives do not revolve around your wedding.'

I never asked them to, I asked them to help me do things smoothly and not make me wait, beg or plead for them to do what they promised to do.

8) 'Balloons are not really appropriate for a reception, it isn't like a swete 16.'

( with fists up ) I LOVE BALLOONS DAMMIT!! I want them behind my dais@#$%^&*&^%$ Why can't I have balloons?

9) 'East meets Mid West equals language barriers and keg stands'

lmao seriously, someone said this to me

10)'That's cheap'

I have heard this a few times from various family members regarding different items. I just have to shake my head.

people i barely know should stop telling me to use ThEIR guy (DJ, florist, officiant, etc). A recommendation from a friend or fam member is one thing, but EVERYONE wants me to use their guy!

We were told that for florists, DJ and limos. We were like no thanks! I wasn't about to mix family friends business with our wedding!

What gets me is this:

'I dont want a big wedding like yours' since when is 160 ppl a big wedding?

this was said to my sis(& MOH) 'she cant have cheap favors, when shes having a weddign like that' ---- like what?

'how will you feel when there will be people there that you dont know - Id never have that?' Umm lets see... my dad has his own business and invited some contracotrs he does business with, my parents are paying for my RH thereofre I am more than happy to see them at my wedding

'oh your parents are paying for your wedding anyway' Ummm no they're not they offered to help us and we accepted - theyre paying 1/2 and we are doing the other half.

'you invitations are very simple, but its your style'

umm ok

about bpics & bora bora 'id never spend so much money on that' well what can i tell ya. if i didnt have the money i wouldnt either.

i swear the only people that FH and I talk to about wedding stuff and our HM are my parents. They understand and dont judge us.

You should give Jordan almonds....they have the shelf life of a twinke so im sure you can find some old guy on ebay selling them from his wedding back in 73 because he needs more money to buy his johnny walker red.

Give those out

Oh my god, this couldnt have come at a better time. If i hear one more person (hater) say ' Oh, I would never spend that on a wedding, I would rather use the money for a down payment on a house' I am going to scream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for not screaming and scaring your neighbors!

I can relate to this. I can also relate to wanting everyone to know how much I love certain vendors. I think all of us have struggled somewhat with irresponsible and mismanaged people who forget how stressed out brides can be.

I agree that it could be annoying if people insisted you used their vendors, especially if they imply you are insane for not using who they tell you to use.

this is a great post i have a few...

'your invitation is nice but it's so plain' i know but they are letterpressed, it's not supposed to have a bell and whistle attached to it!

'your dress is nice but it's so plain, you're not going to have anything added to it?' um, no the that's the reason i like it and what am i supposed to do add a panel of lace or pay someone to intricately beadwork my dress after i bought it?

'i can't believe weddings cost so much money, you should've just eloped' yeah, believe it and in retrospect i probably would have!

It is so very hard to put any amount of effort and time into something to get where you need to be in a wedding, which is at the altar.

I have struggled with these same accusations.

I hope you find a way to make your choices and love them and not let what others dictate to you make you 2nd guess your choices.

I can tell you we have ALL been there!

I am so excited that you are getting the wedding you want and that your parents are on board to help you and inspire you.

Too often, way too often, people lose sight of how emotional this journey is and how sensitive we become in the process.

I think you have a lot of class and a lot of good fortune to be able to have the wedding and HM of your dreams.

Jordan almonds....you're lucky if you don't break your teeth on them!

That's what I thought!! I nearly broke my tooth on one!! I love almonds, but those puppies are hard!!!! Mary MOB

I know they symbolize fertility and all but seriously!

Wouldn't it be funnier if I packed them in a little plastic tooth that kids can out their lost teeth in for the tooth fairy!

But I wouldn't!
