things to do in the stonybrook area

so, my SIL has her company christmas tomorrow at three village inn, and my brother asked DH and I to 'chauffeur' them so they can drink. party is 7-12 (i think)...
do DH wants to make it a date night... he wants to have a nice dinner (although I hate eating out.. I'm so picky with food) um... then we have to find something else to do to kill the rest of the time.
i was thinking of going to the movies to see 'tron' but DH did say its opening day... and it'll be packed.
so.. any other suggestions?
I'm not too familiar with the area, DH goes to college there, but he just goes to class and leaves, he doesn't cruise the neighborhood.

Re: things to do in the stonybrook area

I lived in stony brook for 4 years....I love that area.

1. Walk around Port Jeff, very pretty, I like to go to Pace's steak house, Pindar wine store (you can sample some of their wines) get some seafood at The Steam Room restaurant, Toast Coffee House, drinks at Tara's. The bakery in Port Jeff by the water is good too. There's also Port Jazz (next to starbucks in Port Jeff) which has live music some nights.

2. There's Smithaven mall which gets really crowded (booo) and there's also a target and best buy nearby.

3. Movie theaters -PJ cinemas & the Stony Brook Loews on Rt 347

4. J & R steakhouse -do the steak challenge....not for nothing, the sides are good, not fine dining, they kind of throw the food at you but it tastes pretty good.

5. Have dinner at The Wang Center on Stony Brook campus.

Port Jeff is really pretty. Have fun!
