Think I need to reschedule?:(

Think I need to reschedule?:(

My wedding is in 68 days. We have a wedding bank account which has all the money that we need for our vendor, photographer, flowers, cake, and dj. Here's the problem...my fiancé just got laid off from his job and I am a full time college student (not working). We do live together already. As it is looking, we have no way to pay our monthly bills & will be forced to start using our wedding money. I am a planner. My fiancé has the attitude 'everything will work out and be ok'. Once we start taking money out of the account, we have no way currently to replace the funds. Has anyone ever rescheduled a wedding? I'm not sure what to do?? All invitations have went out and we already have many rsvps. I don't want to cancel indefinitely but rather reschedule for next year. I'm hoping the vendors we are using will allow our deposits to transfer to next year. I'm also hoping that wedding guests aren't irritated or take our wedding seriously. I don't have many girlfriends or a large family for support/advice. Please help!!

i'm sure everyone would understand.
if your wedding is in suffolk, there is a law that might protect you to get the venue deposit back, but im not sure how many months before you area allowed to cancel.

This might not be the most sound advice, but I just talked to my FH about it. He said that if it were us, he would most likely ask for deferments on the bills and have the wedding. Hopefully you'll make some money back and be able to pay off the bills in a month or two?
You might wind up losing money if vendors aren't willing to give a deposit back.
I'm so sorry you're going through this, I hope everything works out for you!

I would probably ask for the same thing! Aside from rent... when I was laid off I asked for a deferment on almost all of my bills and I got them all deferred and even some without any interest!

Your wedding is only 2 months away, so you won't be protected under that Suffolk law (its 6 months) and honestly... you have everything done except the payments. FH will be able to collect unemployment and maybe see if you can pick up a light PT job at a store or something. I know being a FT student and working sucks... but sometimes sacrifices have to be made.

HTH!

I agree with this. I would definitely ask for a deferrment on my students loans and any other bills possible. Your wedding is so close and the process to try to reschedule may be more stressful than to defer your bills for a few months. I pray everything works out well for you and your FH

Don't reschedule. Look into borrowing the money or taking out a loan. The amount of money you already spent will be lost and you might not be able to re-schedule vendors due to their schedules.
I saw a 2014 bride wanted to switch from March to May (I don't remember the exact months) and the hall was charging her $1900 and her wedding is over 1 year away.

Listen to your FH, it will all work out. Sorry you are going through this, Good Luck.

I agree with the other ladies. Your wedding is very close that it would be money lost if you were to reschedule. We would not cancel. I am so sorry that this has happened and I pray that your FH will find a job soon.

I am so sorry this has happened to you, but I agree you should try to go through with it. Knowing your situation, your guests may be extra generous with your gifts!

Yes I agree with what everyone is saying!! The wedding is too close with all the money you'd be losing and extra fees you'd be paying and all the guests you'd be contacting that have already RSVPd!! On top of differing bills I would maybe contact some vendors who could be caring and ask if you could maybe pay some after the wedding or on the day of and explain th situation? I don't know if that would help or hurt but that's what I would do, maybe another girl could second this or disagree?

I would do whatever it takes to have the wedding since its only 2 months away. Once you hAve the wedding you will be able to catch up with your bills. If you change plans you won't get your deposits back and your hall will probably want to charge you additional money if you do it from a year from now. If the hall is in Suffolk county there is a Suffolk county's caterers law so you would be able to get some of your deposit back but it also depends if they can book it which is highly unlikely. My fiance and I had cancelled our original wedding but that was with over a year's notice to the hall Andrew got our money back but it may be different with only 2months away. Also remember family and friends that already booked airline tickets and time off from work. I'm sure everyone will understand either way but I think you will lose more money in the long run if you reschedule it. Good luck.
