Think we are accepting their counter-offer for the condo...

So we made an offer on a condo, and they counter-offered, and I think we will accept. The weird thing is that what we have agreed on is 14,000 less than their original offering price, and we were the first people they showed it to, and they had an open house scheduled for this weekend which they will cancel if we accept their offer. So I wonder why they wouldn't show it at the open house to try to get more $? It is the difference between today (Thurs) and the open house Sat., so even if they did that and got back to us Mon. it wouldn't be a big time difference...I am just suspicious...

they might be relying on your offer to make an offer elsewhere....

they might have some sort of urgency to move, like a job is waiting if they are leaving the area

or if something is wrong with the condo, you'll know upon inspection

I know, it just seems weird since it is so close to the Open House date--you think they would hold off for a couple days, even if they need it to make an offer on a house...Just odd but I agree, when it is inspected we will know if anything is wrong....

no guarantee (sp??) that they will get an offer from the open house!

Thanks Denise! It is the Nob Hill condos in Ronkonkoma--they are very nice if anyone is looking. We looked around a lot, and FH LOVED this particular unit. I liked it too, and it is very large, with its own washer and dryer which I wanted. It is so hard though, prices are rising so quickly and I hate thinking that we paid more than anyone else ever has for one of these units... But I guess that is just real estate here! It is beautiful though, a gorgeous complex with a pool, tennis, basketball, great grounds, etc.

Thanks! I hope I haven't jinxed myself by talking about it before we sign! The complex just has a great feel to it.

Good luck with it. If you want to be sneaky... why not ask a friend to call them inquring about the unit after you agree to the offer. Lets see if they entertain other potentially higher offers after agreeing with you.

Good luck to you! I couldn't find any website for the complex, but there are a few 2 bedroom units up on MLS. Here's the link to one--room size very similar to ours.
There are fewer one bedrooms, but they are about $20,000 cheaper than the 2 right now. I would love to have some LIW neighbors if anyone else is looking!
