Thinking about getting a part time job at a catering hall...

What do you ladies think about this? Would you work in a catering hall, maybe not the one you are getting married in, before your wedding? I am really going back and forth about this. I somehow think it would mess up my wedding. I really have no idea how but that is what is going through my head.

UPDATE: So I went and filled out applications at JT, CB and davids bridal. I also went to verdis in westbury but they said the hiring person is only there on tuesdays. They are all hiring and welcomed me filling out the application. I also ran into the quesitons of....So when is your wedding and where are you having it? Totally forgot I had my ring on. The people at CB even asked me where i was booked. I told them WM only because I attended a wedding at thier place and we had alot of same guests....total lie. I was so caught off guard by that one. Hopefully someone will call.

OMG... me too, I always wondered what it would be like to be a planner. It just sounds like it could be so much fun, except dealing with obnoxious people sometimes, but it come with the territory.

To answer your question, if it's what you want to do go for it.

I don't see a downside to this other than having less time in the day, obviously. No harm in applying!

I may go tomorrow just to fill it out. She said the hiring manager picks up all of the applications on mondays. I'll let you know how it goes.

I worked at Douglaston Manor while I was in college for a summer. Honestly, it blew. You give up your weekends, do back breaking work, and the money isn't great.

If you are looking for extra money I would go with a restaurant. The tips would be waaaay better.

Its for extra money. I never thought of doing it at my hall for money off of my wedding. Thats not a bad idea. i will check that out also.

I also applied at macys in the gift registry section and at davids bridal. Anything wedding related works for me.

i worked at one - i lasted 2 weeks....they certainly didn't pay me enough to be that exhausted and for my feet to hurt that much. my sister did it for many years and liked it.

instead, i chose to wake up at 5 am and work for a bagel store for the remainder of my summer break that year...i would never do that again

Good luck!!

I've been working @ C&B for the past 6 months for the discount on house things...but now all the extra $$ i make is going towards the wedding. it's tiring; but so worth it when i see the paycheck!

I think i remember when you posted on here you were going to get a job there for the discount. Thats a great idea. If I get the job at macys I will be very happy with the discount. Especially since i have 1 of my registries there. i am going to go out today and put in applications.

Wish me luck ladies!!! Wouldnt it be something if i get a job at 1 of these catering halls and see one of my fellow LIW brides getting married. I promise i will work extra hard at your wedding

i worked there too! I agree that working at the catering hall may change your view on the wedding. I had my sweet 16 at douglaston manor while i was working there and the fact that i knew how the food was prepared and where the linens were kept, how the napkins were folded, etc made the event seem not as special for some reason.
