Were thinking of a destination wedding now. BUT my FIL are BROKE... And my FH has 5 brothers and sis with a ton of kids. Is it proper etiquete to pay for ALL of them/ And is it cheaper to do a destination thing for 40 PP instead of a catering hall for 175 and all the extras..... I dont know im soooo confused and im torn I just think spending 40,000 for 4 hours is crazy when I can make it so different and it be a party for 3 days rather than 4 hours..... I NEED HELP..... Thanx in advance

I fully agree with you! You are making me kinda want to have a destination wedding now, lol! I am not sure what the etiquette is as far as who pays for what though. Sorry!

You do not need to pay for people to travel. Although you'd want to shop around and negotiate good deals for hotel and airfare.
As far as price goes it certainly depends and how extravengant you go. You can spend 40K for 175 guests or 40. Some travel agents can help you with DWs and some resorts have a wedding planner.

Re: Thinking of destination wedding... QUESTIONS?????
I looked into this because this is what we wanted to do originally. I was working with destinationweddings.com, but it was too much for my family to pay for. I have a sister with 3 teenage boys, so paying for them would have been too much for her...so we decided not to do it because of that. So, I guess these are things you need to think about. Their was no way I would get married without my sister and her 3 boys there, so it was a no brainer for me.

Re: Thinking of destination wedding... QUESTIONS?????
I know its such a toss up. My FH has all the bros/sis with all the kids and it would prob be a hassle for all of them. Thats why I was sayin we would pay for all of them. I ran it by my sisters and family and their all for it. But its his family. Would it be roud and say that its 2 years away kind of insinuating ..SAVE....! But I guess thats bitchy... I get like that sometimes
But if we pay for all of his family its going to run us about 12,000.....grrrrrrrrr
I DONT KNOW...

Re: Thinking of destination wedding... QUESTIONS?????
You took the words right out of my mouth. My Fh and I decided a few days ago that this is what we are going to do and I am soooo excited. I could not handle the fact of spending 40-50K for 5 hours and was already getting bumed out about it. So, we decided we would cancel our reception place and have a Destination Wedding in Miami (most likely). It is going to cost like 1/4 and be (in my opinion )so much more fun, relaxed and memorable. My family is loving the idea too.
I am just starting so, I do not know much. I was thinking I would pay for my MOH and the Best Man and try to help out as much as we can w/other family members. The point is to not spend as much Money so paying for everyone may not be that easy. I see where you are coming from because I have 3 sisters and a big family, but 2 of the three live in Florida so I luck out with that.
I think whoever wants to be there and is important to you will be there and it will be a blast. Good luck planning and making a decision. I say go for it!!!!! -Melissa

Re: Thinking of destination wedding... QUESTIONS?????
FH and I were originally going to do a destination wedding. We were going to invite 20-40 people. We figured we were going to pay for hotel for two nights (friday and saturday nights) for the closest of the people. This meant our families and those who would eventually be in our wedding party. If people wanted to stay longer they were of course more than welcome to but we wouldn't be able to pay for the extra days. To cut costs we were going to do a place with lots of air lines and a decent sized airport and tourism trade. We were thinking Playa del Carmen, Mexico. That way people could fly in on any airline on any time. We were also going to do an all-inclusive so that we didn't have to worry about paying for extra meals or entertainment. Prices looked like they wouldn't be too bad. Take a look at the all-inclusives. A lot of them give free weddings if you book with them. good luck!

Just make sure it isn't a serious hardship on your FILs to pay for the travel.

Re: Thinking of destination wedding... QUESTIONS?????
We had a destination wedding in FL. We had 45 ppl come. Although I didn't pay for the wedding my in laws did, my MIL said it was around $20,000 for everything. BUT orginally she had the bridal party paying for their stay in the condos she rented(cheaper that way and that way we were all together) but she ended up paying for all of them to stay there.
We had our wedding at a resort and it was during spring break.
