this ain't no backyard barbeque!!

can i just tell you ladies about the most insane rsvp i've recieved or even ever heard of for that matter.

this is from the reverand who happens to be FFIL's best friend

he circled '2 number of guests attending' then wrote next to it 'WEDDING ONLY' which is underlined

under his name he wrote 'I will be at the COCKTAIL ONLY'

the the bottom of the card says ' PLEASE DONt 'COUNT' ME FOR DINNER. (OVER)' and he filled up the entire back saying:

'my wife will probably just come to the service and NOT the reception. I'll just come for a glass of wine at the recetpion...NOT for dinner. We preachers just can't party on Saturday Night. Blessings'

umm dude i have to pay for you anyway so i suggest you loosen up the old belt, belly up to the table and get MY money's worth!! seriously how am i supposed to tell the fox hollow that i have guests coming who are not eating and will probably just be at cocktail hour excuse me but this is a wedding not a damn cookout!! sorry had to vent at the craziness

Anyone can come to cocktail hour...it's just the seated guests during dinner that is counted. so actually that was nice of him (in a weird way) to let you know to not pay for him but not to be surprised when he shows up.

I don't know how exactly it is working for you but if it were my RH, I just wouldn't make a placecard for him. My CH is on the rooftop and most CH i've been to were not 'seated' arrangements just a bunch of tables set up and people standing around them or in groups.

Annoying...but I would confirm to make sure he was only attending cocktail hour and kind of make it known there will not be a seat for you if that is the case.

thats true he did say on the front of the card COCKTAIL ONLY but on his explaination on the back he said he'd 'just have a glass of wine at the reception' which is what is throwing me off becuase if he's planning on coming in to the main reception room and i dont have seat for him im gonna feel like a jerk. especially since he just married us. its just confusing. i wish people were normal and just said yes or no.

I can see where you are confused. but isn't the reception (cocktail hour AND dinner).. I mean that's what we call it no? I thought it was a nice gesture . JMO though.

im kinda leaning towards counting him as a no and just hoping he leaves after cocktail hour and doesnt expect a seat at the dinner part of the reception. i just hope im right and it doesnt become a cluster to get him a seat if he changes his mind and wants to eat.

i think i'd rather have people not send back the rsvp card at all than respond and be iffy with 'i'll probably come to this part but not this part' etc. its so irritating.
