There is a great apartment that DH and I both agree is the best we've seen so far. We saw it about three weeks ago, and honestly it's all I think about. DH has admitted to pretty much the same. The problem is that it's about £10K more than we want to spend, and we just feel that it's so early into our search. There are rumors of a market crash here and we really want to hold out to see this months official sales figures, etc, etc. Plus, this particular apartment really lends itself well to an extension, which is what we really would like to do to it--but if we buy it, we won't have any money left over to do the extension.
Well, the RE agent told us on Saturday that someone put an offer in on the apartment on Friday. He said it hadnt' been accepted yet, but he did say it was less than the asking price. He couldn't tell us how much the offer was.
So, now DH and I are going crazy wondering what the offer was...We still feel that we're not ready to put an offer in, but we'll just kick ourselves if it goes for less than what we were willing to pay.
I know that we should just wait this out and it'll all work out for the best, but it's such a guessing game to play!!!
Really just need to vent!

Re: This housebuyers stuff is hard!!!
the market crash rumors are tough to deal with. i feel your pain. IMO, i don't think the market will 'crash', just slow down or plateau, its so inflated. they say you can tell if its inflated if you can't rent your place out and cover the mortgage (traditional not interest only) with rent. we have our condos rented and we could not cover it. we lose about $300 on each (we include condos fees and taxes too.) also the increasing number of interest only mortgages is another sign. the last time there were this many of this type was before the great depression-so THAT'S a little scary. but i still don't think it will crash-just slow. at least i'm hoping! i really do think buying is the way to go.

We live in London, so things are a little different here. The market has slowed over the past year and is now starting to dip. The government is about to lower interest rates to buoy the market, but there are still rumors of a pretty big crash.
We definitely will buy, it's just a matter of waiting a little while to see where the house prices go by the end of the summer.

Re: This housebuyers stuff is hard!!!
all i can say is that at the start of our search - we found a place we loved, fireplace, vaulted ceilings, balcony - it was great!
we put an offer in, it was accepted and then they accepted someone else's offer over our's. we were crushed, as we had decided we were destined to live there..... it was also more money than we wanted to spend, but we were willing to sacrifice.
eventually, we found the place we live in now and realized that THIS is the perfect place for us. The first place was great - but this is where we belong for now.
so I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and when you find your perfect place - you'll get it
