At about 9:15 a.m., a garbage collector flipped the handle to compress bags of garbage that had been thrown into the back of the truck when he spotted a small arm. Unsure whether it was a human arm or doll's arm, the sanitation workers called police. A search of the truck turned up the body. Police said the umbilical cord was attached.
Police canvassed buildings in the area looking for the mother and put out an advisory to local hospitals asking doctors to report any women seeking treatment for what appears to be postpartum-related symptoms or trauma.

How sad. If we had a 'drop off' policy in this country so many of these dealths could be avoided. Chicago has the policy. Bascially it states that a mother can bring her newborn into a hospital and say that she is unable to care for it and walk away without legal problems. As it is right now, if a women/girl did that the Police would be called and she would be arrested for abandoment/neglict- which is so wrong since she is obviously NOT putting it in a dumpster or other horrible place.
My heart goes out to that baby.....

The autopsy is not out yet on whether the baby was already dead or not. So let's wait for that before we start passing judgement on whether she killed the baby or not.

Thank GOD the garbage man had the decency to call police...THis Makes me wanna vomit....whether baby was stillborn or alive, the fact that someone could put a newborn with umbilical cord still attached in the trash...disgusts me

this is so horrible. I belive NY passed this law about any woman can walk into hospital/shelter/police station/ church and drop off a baby no questions asked. They even said it on the news!! There are so many people who can not have babies in this world. Also carry this child for 9 months u get attached to just throw it in the garbage! and dont u think famiy and friends could maybe tell when she is 9months pregnant (although i know someone who hid this from her mom till she went into labor and asked her mom for a ride to he hosptal cause she was in labor) dont u think they wonder what happened to the baby??
