This is so new to me!!!

This is so new to me!!!

Neither FH nor I have a washing machine. We're typical borough people who trek it to the laundromat.

On Sunday, some friends wanted to get together and we were all 'womp womp....we have laundry to do' And one of our friends is like 'why don't you just drop it off...it's not expensive to do at all'

So we did. The difference for each of us was 5 dollars. We do laundry every two weeks.

5 fkn dollars. That's it.

5 dollars for freedom, for having more hours in our weekends, and to NOT have to deal with the freakshows on legs in the laundromats?

DONE.

I don't know why we never thought of it sooner. We just always thought it was expensive. Normally I spend $12 on laundry (every 2 weeks), plus detergent, bleach, softener, etc. And then I usually grab coffee or play video games to pass the time. So it kinda-sorta is the same amount, since my charge was $17.

I feel like I have so much more time on the weekends (every other, anyway) now.

FH is a laundry mat person. I can't STAND it.

i hope to god we find an appt with washer/dryer there...

I like being able to throw my jeans in just to make them warm and snug.

I never knew about that! Would've saved us a TON of time when we were in our apartment. Now thank GOD I have a washer/dryer in my house and we can do laundry at all hours of the night, lol.

FH had me do laundry at midnight Saturday night. I couldn't figure out why he wanted to do it so late, and then realized on Sunday (when I normally do laundry), it wouldn't be done because of my shower!

until they lose something of yours

i stopped doing it b/c of that and b/c the clothes were never soft nor did they smell good. i even used to provide detergent/fabric softener for them to use which i don't think thwy did

i used to drop it off and it was wonderful...my laundrymat would even hang dry my clothes that couldn't go in the dryer...FH has a LOT of laundry so it cost me $20 a week....we have a washer/dryer now that I love...

Re: This is so new to me!!!

I've told this story before...

but I used to drop my laundry off when I lived at home... our washing machine broke, dad was waiting for 'a good deal' to buy another one

anyway, so I bought a bunch of new underwear (thongs), which I wasn't about to wear without washing and I took everything to the landromat. I pick it up and get home and my underwear is missing.

The woman doing my laundry had her 14 year old daughter helping her that day and she thought my underwear was cute. So she took it.

Ew. and hey!!

So, that, plus the fact that I don't trust them to not put the things in the dryer that don't belong in there, I don't drop it off anymore now that I live in Queens without dad's 'good deal' washing machine.

That's crazy.

I will admit, I totally kept my Pearl Jam tour shirts out of the wash because those are damn near precious to me.

But everything seemed a-okay...plus it's a place that we used to go to regularly, so the owners are friendly with us.

People are nuts, though!

we're the same - no laundry in our buildings, so we drop off, but only certain things.

They shrink the sh!t out of EVERYTHING, so if you have anything that might shrink, it will.

We bring one load of 'hand dry' stuff to the laundrymat every 2 weeks - not bad, I just read while the washer goes.

I agree w/ the previous poster though - it's not that soft and doesn't smell that fresh, but I seriously have NO TIME to do it myself!

As long as you trust the people handling it, you're all good.

I don't trust the people here. I've been going there for 6 years and ... no. No thanks. You're not doing my laundry. lol

Re: This is so new to me!!!

We have a washer/dryer and sometimes I still want to go to the laundry mat down the street and do it all at once...our washer/dryer is down the stairs, out the front door, around the side of the house and down another flight of stairs to a cold basement.

It gets reaaaaaally annoying and the motivation to go and switch the loads and haul them back up is seriously lacking.
