When I went dress shopping all the samples were a size 10 and they had to be clipped. I tried on one size 8 and it fit perfectly except that it had to be taken in a little at the bust (I only tried on one designers dresses) Well they measure me and my measurements are in line with a size 8 except for my hips which are a 10, so they order a 10 for me even though the hip area doesn't matter because its not a tight dress, its a ball gown. I told them I was planning on losing weight. I'm a little upset becuase when the dress comes in its not going to be a perfect fit, its going to be big. Did everyone else get a dress ordered one size larger than they needed? Do you think this will be a problem if I lose any weight? The store said there would be no problem but I'm worried!

It's very rare for a dress to fit perfectly when it comes in. Don't worry about it. It's much easier to take a dress in than try to let it out. I lost a bit of weight after I ordered the dress. They took in the sides and it fit perfectly.

You can't buy a smaller dress in hopes of losing weight. Every bride says they are going to lose weight, so salons don't even listen. And every bride is shaped differently. I've always had to get dresses 2 sizes bigger because of my shoulders. Then they had to alter everything else down.
Dresses have to be altered. It's just a way of life. If not, we'd all be the same height, wearing the same size heel, wearing the same size bra. God Bless the tailors for making us all look beautiful!
BTW: My dress was being altered at the beginning of February for me. I lost 20 pounds in the 5 weeks before my wedding. I went for my next fitting and they just altered it again as if it was no big deal.

I just ordered my dress on sat. I just fit into a 14 but measured to a 16. I am planning on losing weight too, but I went with what the chart said. I'd rather it have to be taken in than let out.

My dress is two sizes too big b/c the smallest size is pretty big on me. I wouldn't worry about it, it's much easier to take it in than to let a dress out - good luck!

Re: This may be a problem
My dress had to be ordered in a size 18 b/c of my chest, I am normally a size 10. My dress fit like a glove on my wedding day.

Re: This may be a problem
sample dresses are usually a little bigger than the actual dress because they've been stretched out by so many people trying them on. so a real dress in size 10 is probably a little smaller than the sample in a 10.
almost everyone has to get altered, it's normal.
also, do you know how many brides say they're going to lose weight and then don't? they're not going to take that chance.
