This mother desrves to goto jail

(09/16/04) MASSAPEQUA - After a massive manhunt, police found the man they say carjacked a vehicle in Massapequa with a child inside.

Just before 11 a.m. Thursday police say a man carjacked a Nissan Xterra from Broadway Gourmet. The owner of the SUV left the vehicle running with her child inside while entering a bagel store. The suspected thief apparently then took the car speeding down North Suffolk Avenue to where it dead-ends at the Massapequa Preserve. The driver apparently fled on foot leaving the toddler in the car. The child was returned to his mother unharmed.

After launching a manhunt around Massapequa and the Massapequa Preserve, police arrested 21-year-old Richard Senacore. Police say Senacore, who has a prior conviction for burglary, fit the description of the carjacker. Authorities also say Senacore was covered with scratches, which are wounds a person would receive if they ran through the foliage of the Massapequa Preserve.

They call this a car jacking but it's not. The mother Went into the bagel store leaving the car running and the baby inside. She should be sitting in jail too.

That is crazy........I have to admit I have let Andrew in the car (not running and locked) twice while I ran in to the coffee shop. I was able to see him at all times. But I will never ever do that again I saw an Oprah episode where a mom left her baby in the car in her driveway while she unloaded groceries into the house and when she came back the car was up in flames!!!!!!!!!!! The baby I think he was 9 mths at the time survired however he is disfigured for life. He had 90% of his body burned

I don't understand how people can do that. How do you leave your child in a car unattended. I'm sure these people always take their wallets and pocketbooks with them for fear someone will steal that but why not leave a helpless human being in the car for them to take. Unbelievable.

I don't agree that the mom deserves to go to jail. I am not agreeing with what she did, but like I said before I can see how that can happen especially if the baby just fell asleep and if she perceives the neighborhood as being safe. Not to mention many new moms are walking zombies for the first couple of weeks because of the lack of sleep. Sleep deprivation clouds judgment. Lets hope others learn from her mistake.

I would NEVER EVER EVER leave my child in the car unattended!! I don't care if he was sleeping & I need to go in the store for 2 seconds I would & have taken him out of the car. I am so paranoid!!!

I will never forget being in Ireland in front of a store & this girl left her child in the stroller outside while she went in the store. I stood there w. my mouth dropped open. What are people thinking?????????

That deli is on a main road where in the last 2 years accidents have been prevelent- reason 1 not to leave the child in the car along with a whole list of other reasons!!!

I will tell you I still remember and I will NEVER forget last year in June right before my wedding I was in the Kohls shopping center in Ronkonkoma and a mother had just put her kids in the car I would say 7 and under, she was pulling out, she was truly car jacked. The man pulled her out of the car, she held onto that car for dear life screaming for her kids. The SOB dragged her through the parking lot until she could not hold on anymore. I will never EVER forget her screams I heard them in my head for weeks, and cry whenever I think about it, even now. The kids started hitting and biting the man so he threw and I mean threw them out of the car, in the back exit of the parking lot. I remember them running around the corner. I remember handing her my cellphone to call her husband and their conversation. I will remember when they were reunited. The whole thing was heart wrenching to say the least

They caught the SOB at the Smithhaven Mall trying to do this again!!!

That woman will probably be cited for endangering the welfare of a child. It just might not make it on TV and they may not do it right away. But I think that woman SHOULD be forced to go to parenting classes. I don't care what the reason or how quick you will be YOU NEVER EVER leave a child in a car.

Another story-

My Mom got out of the car to talk to a neighbor and was standing right there with the car running, she left my brother in the car who was about 2 at the time. He got loose in the car, shifted the car out of park and the car started going in circles. Our neighbor had to jump through the moving car window to get to my brother and stop the car! What if he wasn't there? What if the car had hit something else? What if it was on a main road?

Sorry there is NEVER A REASON TO LEAVE A CHILD IN THE CAR!

Im sorry no disrespect but there is no reason for you TO EVER leave your child in the car.... EVER. Get a baby sitter bring someone along with you Don't have a baby if you can't 'drag them a long with you' People in this world can't have babies and people think hey its just to much of a hassle to 'drag' this kid in with me so I will just leave it in the car.... Where anyone could kidnap it. COME ON...

Please Don't leave your baby in the car.

Maybe not long time jail but she should have been arrested. How could you think it is ok to leave your child in a running car? The baby was 9 months old, not 9 days and sleeping even if that made a difference. People never learn. She should be ashamed of herself! When you have children, your life changes and you have to accept that or don't have children!

I agree that a child should not be left alone, but hire a baby sitter? I think that's asking for a lot from parents. I could see how a mother would not want to wake her baby up just to run in and grab a bagel for breakfast. It's not the bother of dragging the kid along, it's do I want to wake the baby up for a 2 minute stop?

Stupid on the mother's end? Yes by all means. But I'm not sure she deserves jail for it. Especially since in the end nothing bad happened to the baby. Let's just hope she learns and never does something like this again. Next time go through a drive thru.

Obviously my post was misinterpreted. I do NOT think it is ok to leave a baby in a car alone! I also don't think that woman should go to jail. She made a poor choice. As I have mention before I have in the past on two occasions left my infant son in the car my reasoning was the first time it was snowing and the second it was raining. I know there is NO excuse and what I did was stupid. Fortunately, I learned from someone else's mistake (featured on the Oprah show) and I will never leave my son alone in the car EVEN in my own driveway while I check the mailbox or unload groceries.

THAT IS HORRIBLE!! She is so lucky the guy left the car and ran.

I dont understand why people do this. Every time a story is like this in the news it is because the mother parked UP FRONT with the car RUNNING and the kid in the CAR....Baby is not here so I cannot imagine exactly what it is like to have to drag the kid in with me - especially if sleeping - but I just could not imagine even putting my baby at risk like that!!!!!!

My opinion is that he really was trying to steal a car not a child The mother should not go to jail,I am sure she is an excellent Mom

Would you believe that FH and I saw a woman do this last summer in MANHATTAN? This woman went into an antiques store and just left the stroller out. If I was at all a more assertive person I would have walked in there and told her off.

Re: This mother desrves to goto jail

I have been babysitting my Cousin who is 13 months Ive had her since she was about 3 months I know how annoying it is considering I babysit her on my only day off from work and I had lots of wedding stuff to do. Not once did I even say gee what a pain in the a$$ it is to bring her in and out let me leave her in the car... She is my responsibility. If i didn't want to do it I shouldn't have taken the job and if you don't want the responsibility of taking your child in and out of the car then you shouldn't have had a baby. No doubt that he wanted the car not the kid but what if he did want the kid? what if he was drunk? What if he was on drugs. IMO this is Child neglect and the mother should goto jail.

And as far as the babysitter thing goes.... I think it is really far fetched but not as far fetched as leaving a child in a car.
