Ok, many of you read my about my FMIL and her ridiculous crap about the pots and pans she was buying us and then she ended up buying us these ugly toasting flutes that she told me she got on clearance. Well, ontop of that, you probably already know that his parents are giving us zipadeedoodah help for our wedding. Well, this is my new vent:
I've been telling JT since the summer that I really want a diamond solitaire necklace to wear on our wedding day, and he told me he's been saving for it to give to me on the day of our wedding. So fine, this is a conversation we have had in front of his mother over and over and over again because she has all the jewelery catalogs that I've been looking at when I gawk and tell JT that I want that necklace. Well, JT came home the other day and said to me in a very pissed off voice, 'You'll NEVER guesswhat my mother bought you for Christmas ' Yep, you guessed it....an F-ING DIAMOND NECKLACE. So basically, this is what it all boils down to: His parents will NOT give us money or help for our wedding, but his mother WILL spend a coupld of thousand dollars just to spite her son and her FDIL. Can you believe she did that? I'm so mad, and JT is LIVID. ABSOLUTELY LIVID. He said she kept going on and on about how beautiful it will be when I wear it on my wedding day. WHAT THE F-CK IS WRONG WITH THIS WOMAN? I do not EVEN WANT HER STUPID F-ING NECKLACE! I told JT that I am returning it and using the money for our wedding. I do NOT do NOT want a f-cking diamond necklace from someone who refuses to help us. It was supposed to be something special for JT TO GIVE TO ME on our WEDDING DAY! And she PURPOSEFULLY f-cked that up. God, I am getting madder as I write this. Thanks for listening.

Oh, I am so sorry. YOu wonder where people are coming from when they do careless things like that. Would he be able to get you earrings or a bracelet to go with?
At least you can be happy that you got the best thing of both his parents. Your fiance!

I know your upset and have a right to be.. I would be pissed to. But really thats what she wants so your letting her win. I know this is easier said then done but dont show her how upset you are!!! INSTEAD since you know the thought and effort was there on your fh's part and your fmil isnt giving you squat for your wedding wear the necklace like you would if he had given it to you and put all the money he saved for it twords the wedding and act like thats money your fmil is giving you.

Couldn't he just get you another diamond - or perhaps have it reset into something you like better?

OMG...I'm sorry! What did your FH say to her? Maybe he can just explain that to her. She shouldn't have done that at all...You can either return it or keep it and have you thought about matching earrings????

I don't know the situation........does she have daughters ? My Aunt tries so so so desperately to win over her DIL by showering her w/ gifts. - Could this possibly be the case ?
I'm sure i'm completel off.......but It's too aggravating to believe a mother would spite her own son so horribly by spending thousands of dollars on something she knew he wanted to do as a special gift for his new wife........... And I wouldn't want a gift like that from her either........

Sorry Rachel- it's crazy that she won't help with the wedding but can fork over a couplenof grand out of spite- I wish I could say that she meant well, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Re: This really bothers me.....(vent about FMIL)
Well, she's done this before many times. In fact, EVERY Christmas she does this. Which is why I will never ever tell her the truth again about what I buy JT. Every time I tell her what I want to buy him or what I already bought him, she goes out and buys it. This is her way. She is more spiteful than I could ever explain. JT told me that he will buy me another necklace and to just put the other one away and forget about it. It has nothing to do with the necklace and everything to do with the fact that she did this to spite us. That really upsets me. I don't hate her because I could never hate a family member, especially the person who birthed my FH, but I pity her and I don't understand why she does this to us? I'm much calmer now than I was before, but I just can't believe this is the mother of the person I love most in life. He is the kindest, most caring person. I always envision his mother as being this great, caring woman until she had kids, and when they were born, they took with them everythign that was good about her, leaving her with nothing. It's truely sad. I'm just so grateful for JT being the person that he is.

I have read all your posts about FMIL. This woman is horrible. I think she needs to go to counseling for sure. She is just so abnormal. Here are some hugs.

You sound like a very smart and caring woman and JT is lucky to have you! Men definitely do NOT marry their mothers, you are living proof.
