So it's just hitting me now. The party started at 1:30, I got a call from my Mom around 1, saying that she was going to be leaving soon, she was just waiting for my Uncle to get off from work to drive her upstate. I was a little pissed at my Uncle because it takes 2 hours to get here, but I brushed it off, and was like 'okay well they'll just be late.' Around 3pm I got another call from my mom saying that they weren't coming anymore. I guess he got stuck at work late. At this point, there's 50 guests at our party, and I had been running around trying to entertain and everything so I wasn't about to let it bother me. Everyone really was looking forward to meeting my mom too.
My mom and my Uncle were the only people from my family who were going to be able to come, and neither of them ended up being there. This just really sucks
Everything else went absolutely perfect. We got such beautiful gifts, and had a lovely time with our friends and his family. I just really wish my Mom could have been there too.

Re: This stinks
Sorry your family disappointed you, but you made the right choice to enjoy the party and think about it later.
It seems your mom was at the mercy of your uncle, and consider it a blessing that you found out now who you and she can and can't count upon. In the future, I would find another way for your mom to get to important events, perhaps a day in advance, even if you have to collect her. A bother but consider it a gift to you and your mom.
There will be so much more to celebrate in the days and years ahead! Many blessing to you and your FH.

I went through the same thing - my mother is completely uninvolved and makes living in Florida an excuse - but I bought her a webcam so she can talk and see pictures and be a part of the process and she just calls asks for money and then disappears :(

My mom is so upset too. She would have found someone else if he had even mentioned the fact that he might not be able to take her. I wish he wouldn't have let both of us down.
He didn't even call to tell me how sorry he was, just posted something on my FACEBOOK. C'mon seriously?

So sorry that happened to you..and I'm sure your mom feels awful about missing it. Just make sure never to rely on your uncle again.

So sorry this happened. Your mother wanted to be there for you. Too bad your uncle put her in that predicament.
