Those already married - Is a wedding planner necessary?

I'm over budget on just about everything so far but am still considering a wedding planner. My mom gets kind of frantic and doesn't function well under pressure. i'm super organized but don't know how much I want to worry about logistics.

I guess I really don't know what a 'day of' planner does.

Any advice is helpful
