were you successful in negotiating rent prices?? How did you go about asking for the lower price??
Apartment tonight is 1200 + electric (central air, heat, gas, cable paid for). I don't know what we should go in there with if we do wind up liking it. $1000 + electric?? $1,100 everything?? $1200 all???

The fact that cable is included is worth it. Electric is nothing compared to cable/internet/phone

Re: those of you who rent
Electric will probably run you like $50-$75/month
If you can get them to do $1200 all it will be a good deal - cable/internet/phone will run you at least $150/month.
Having gas and water included is a perk, but would probably only be like $20 more a month all together for both.
I would def try to get the cable included - that would be your biggest money saver...

Re: those of you who rent
just so you have something to compare to, my electric bill is between $50-75 per month for my one bedroom apartment.
of course, it'll prob be a bit higher now that the A/C's been on for the past 2 weeks
just say 'is there anyway that the price can be brought down a little?' and see what they say (they might say 'ok, i'll make it $1100' or whatnot)
good luck

i think it depends on the landlord and how desperate they are to get someone moved in there.
at any rate, it's worth a shot

Re: those of you who rent
most landlords will negotiate. its doesnt hurt to ask. DH always does the negotiating. he got our landlord quite a bit when we moved in as well as each year when we were renewing.

Re: those of you who rent
I was able to negotiate down $50 a month on rent because we requested an option to renew, we also worked out what the rent would be next year if we decide to renew... HTH

Ask about the central air being included, since CA is run off of electric and thats not included, how can they figure that out?

Re: those of you who rent
when we were looking, we always asked teh real estate agent if the landlord could do any better with the rate. we also suggested a 13 month lease, with the last month free.
thats what our apartment lease is, 13 month with the last month free. She didnt come down on the monthly rate, cause she was already low balling it. so we got a month free a the end. (averages out to $200 less per month) but all utilities are out of pocket, which is fine. but other places we were looking at, they would go $50-$100 less then the offer rate. And since we looked in Hoboken, we needed a spot, we always asked if they would include the parking in the rate.
always try, just throw it out there... you never know what they will say.

Re: those of you who rent
When we were looking, we didn't find any apartment that included electric. It's not bad compared to heat, etc.
Our landlord dropped the price by $100 per month without us even negotiating plus it came completely furnished so we didn't go any lower.
