Those that are using a chuppah....

For those of you that are using a chuppah...how much are you paying for it? I am being quoted $500-800 from different florists for them to provide it and I find it crazy. I went to Patchogue Floral Fantasy and they rent them...for $150, but then we need to pick it up, decorate it and bring it back. My SIL said that she would take care of it, but I don't know if it's worth the hassel? Any advice....thanks.

I was all up for using a floral chuppah and got all sorts of quotes in the range of what the ladies posted. Then, during the planning of our wedding, we went to a friend's wedding where they had designated four dear friends and important people in their lives to each hold a pole upon which there is a piece of material. There are all different types of materials, I soon found out, including custom made things, an old tallit (prayer shawl) from a significant family member (we are using my FI's late father, or even just a piece of silk. You can have friends each decorate a piece and sew it together for something you can keep. Bottom line is, even though we had the budget for a fancy chuppah, by going this route we incorporate even more dear friends and special people into the event, and it becomes more meaningful! Plus, super easy to clear the area--and since we are having the wedding in an old mansion that is another added bonus. Just another way to approach it! Good luck.

We are also paying around $750- they can get very very expensive! A lot of the cost is actually the labor involved in putting one up- apparantly, it is not an easy job and it takes a while to build the actualy structure.

If you rent one, you need to make sure that someone can build it for you and make it sturdy so it doesn't fall (don't laugh- I've seem some collapse and they were done by professionals!). You should also make sure that your location allows you to rent one and put it up yourself.

As the person said above, having chuppah holders is really nice and you can decorate the poles beautifully! It's an option that won't cost to much.

Good luck!

A Chuppah is the Jewish Marriage Canopy, you get married under it.
You should see if the catering hall has one, I know my catering hall has one in the chapel.

We are lucky. Our chuppah is being supplied by the Townhouse. They have a betiful wrought iron chuppah with silk flowers aound it and stuff. And it has a hole through the top that allows you to see through the skylight in the ceiling. It creates and overall beautiful effect. If I can get the pics onto the computer, I will post for you to get an idea.

we are getting a chuppah and we are paying $800 from burtons. i think florist decorated ones are beutiful and will match your flowers during the ceremony and your bo-ks. if its too much money- then im sure a decorated one that you rent will be just as buetiful and maybe more meaningful if a family member decorates it.

I was truly surprised that four poles and a piece of cloth with some flowers would cost THAT MUCH MONEY too.

My quotes ranged from $800 to $1200.

My girlfriend went the home-made chuppah route, if money is an issue, you may want to consider it. My chuppah was beautiful and I wouldn't change a thing but it was really only up for an hour for $850, that's an expensive item.

Our hall provides one, however we're getting an upgrade which provides for flowers - the upgrade is only $250.
