Those that have been to hawaii!!

When you planned your trip to hawaii? Was there any speciall considerations as to which island to visit first. I'm planning to visit different islands but I dont know which order I should visit them in.

Since I have never been there before, anything that you would recommend I should see or do while I'm there.

Its so hard to plan a honeymoon to a place where you've never been before.

Please Please Help!!!

PS. I've surfed online but its better to get recommends from you girls who actually experienced first hand.

Thanks so much!!

We were told to visit Maui first because there was more to do sightseeing wise first and then to go to Kauai because it was more relaxing and you could just relax for the end of the trip. I didn''t go to Oahu but I heard there is tons to do there... so maybe its best to get the sightseeing done and then relax at the end of the trip before going home. It worked well for us that way.

Hi girls: We are looking into Hawaii too. I think we are going to Oahu first and then Maui. No special reason other than airfare somehow comes out cheaper that way.

We just stayed in Maui the whole time at the Four Seasons....BEAUTIFUL hotel! We were doing something everyday.....the road to Hana, Haleakala (that was amazing, we did it twice!), Lahania Luau (sp?)...

We are going next July and we''re doing Maui, Kuaui, then Ohau. Part of the reason that we are doing it that way is because we can fly directly into Maui and directly out of Ohau. Another thing we found important to take into consideration is the interisland flights- depending on which islands you are going to/from, you may have to connect in Honolulu which is a waste of time.

You have to decide what you like to do or what you want out of your honeymoon. We went to Maui and Kuaui with a day trip to Oahu. We never went to the Big Island.

We went to Maui first b/c there is more to do and it''s a bit more lively. We left Kuaui for last b/c we wanted to do our relaxing on the last part of our trip. We were very happy with the way we did it. As for Oahu, we were glad we didn''t stay there at all. We were very happy that we went there but we were also very happy it was only a day trip (left at 5am and got back at 8pm). We loved seeing Pearl Harbor. But Ohau over all was just like New York City except with beaches in the city. One side of the street was shopping and the other was the beach. That was kind of cool but WAY too crowded and not what we were looking for in a HM (JMO). Maui was MUCH quieter than Oahu and Kuaui was even more so. I hear the Big Island is another major city island but don''t know for sure.

That is why you have to decide what you want out of your HM. No matter what, you will LOVE it!!

I haven''t gone yet but I was told the same thing by 2 people. Kauai is more relaxing - not as much to do there as in Maui but I don''t mind. I want to be one with the beach and sand for a few days!

We are going to Oahu for 1 night. We wanted to see the USS Arizona Memorial. But others have said that Waikiki is commericalized. That the main drag is like being on Fifth Ave or Madison Ave in NYC with all the shops. But for 1 night (we have to leave from Oahu back to NY anyway) so I dont'' think I'll mind.

Re: Those that have been to hawaii!!

we just got back from Kauai, and I''d say there were tons of things to do!

We went on hikes, snorkeled, scuba, explored caves, swam in waterfalls - and there were a bunch of things we still wanted to do but ran out of time - kayak trips, the canyons, more hikes,

I''ve been to Maui, Oahu and the Big Island as well, as Kauai is by FAR my favorite. Its so much more lush, unpopulated & exotic then the other islands.

(if you''re looking for nightlife, Oahu is the place to be, but otherwise its worth skipping - unless you want to see Pearl Harbor)

Re: Those that have been to hawaii!!

!e are going in May- and we are going to Maui for 5, then to Kaui for 4, then to the big Island for 3-

We are doing the big Island last bc we are staying at the Four Seasons there, and was told to save that for last bc it is the most amazing hotel ever!!!

We wanted to stay in Maui for a longer when we first get there, so we can just relax after coming right off the wedding, and since that is where we are spending the most amount of time- It is how our travel agent posed it.

Where is everyone staying in Hawaii

Maui- Fairmont KeaLani
Kauai- Hyatt Regency
Big Island- Four Seasons.

We have about 6 couple that have gone there in the last 3 years on honeymoons, so we basically picked the best out of all their recommendations.

Good Luck!

We went to Hawaii for 10 nights -
6 in Maui at the Grand Wailea which I can't even rave enough about - it was absolutely amazing and the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed at!
4 nights at the Hyatt in Kauai - the Hyatt was also beautiful but DH and I loved Maui more.
4 nights in Kauai is plenty.....

I've been to OAHU- Where Waikiki Beach is- and it's beautiful, relaxing, and there's a looot to do there! I didn't go for a honeymoon, I went for a friends wedding, but I loved it. However, I heard the other islands are more 'paradise' like whereas Oahu is more touristy. GOod luck!

Hawaii is beautiful often. I'm often in Honolulu....you can see the entire island by car in about two hours the coast is beautiful...do not pick Waikiki for a honeymoon spot it is overpriced and overated (the beach is a strip of sand very small and CROWDED)....go to Maui or Kauai instead it is more romantic you will have a better time...the people of Hawaii are very friendly and accomodating people. Tip: fly to LAX or SFO and chill for a day or two and then go on into Hawaii....it's a 6 hr flight from NY to the west coast and another six hours to points of Hawaii...I've flown worldwde quite often doing long hauls up to 18 hrs straight if you can't take being locked up on a plane and are not going first class break up your trip or if you must - start with an early west coast flight from NY and continue on through. You will be jet lagged and crazy when you land in the late aftenoon but it's cool!

Hi guys, thanks so much for your input, this definitely gives me a starting point to look into

Any of you girls fly first class from NY? How much did it cost for coach and first class?

I'm so excited. We will be going in May. Do you know how the weather is during that time?

Re: Those that have been to hawaii!!

We did Maui and Kauai on our HM, we went to Maui first and then Kauai. Personally, if we could do it over again, I would have done Kauai first. We were so tired from the travel, and the wedding prep in the days before, we spent the first two days in Maui relaxing at the beach, and then could not do as many activities. It was fine, great quality time but when we got to Kauai there was less to do (esp at night) and we were all rested and ready to go There are lots of things to do on both islands, but I would have flipped them if I had it to do again.

Our TA told us it would cost another few thousand to fly first class. We decided to put that money into activities instead. We made sure to sit in the exit row for a little more room, but the flights were still LONG and brutal in those little seats. If you can do it, it would be worth the money. Good luck!

Re: Those that have been to hawaii!!

I went to Hawaii and stayed in Oahu for like 3 wks and flew to The Big Island for 4 nights last November and had an AWESOME time! I DEFINTELY recommend the Big Island. We saw the volcanoes and it was absolutely amazing to see the lava flowing into the ocean. My boyfriend and I stayed with his friend who was in the military and has a home in Oahu off base, so we saved a TON of money. They have 3 prices for everything...the tourist price, the local price, and themilitary price. There is such a huge military presence in Oahu (Pearl Harbor and many other bases) that the military discount is 3 times less than the tourist price. Locals pay something in-between the 2. So, if you know anyone there...it's DEFINITELY a PLUS. There are also these cards you can get...like a Hawaii gold tourist card and they give you discounts. You can get these by visiting www.gohawaii.com. Waikiki is DEFINITELY a tourist trap, but we still had fun. We went to the Bonzai pipeline, saw 30 ft waves and watched the nat'l surfing championships....The Big Island is mostly miles and miles of nothing but lava. The resorts along the coast are beautiful, but once you leave the resort...lava and more lava. But we went to Volcanoes National Park and were AWESTRUCK by how gorgeous it was and how HUGE the volcanoes are! I recommend seeing it if you can.

Re: Those that have been to hawaii!!

Volcanoe Nat'l Park was amazing and I will never forget it as long as I live. DEFINITELY go if you can! There is an AMAZING hotel on the Big Island called the Hilton Waikeloa Village that has a lagoon built in straight from the ocean. We went kayaking in the lagoon and saw sea turtles (even touched one!) and all kinds of exotic fish...they also have a 'Dolphin Quest' ....you can go swimming with the dolphins! It was amazing....
