Well my top layer of my cake is 6' round so I went with a 5' cake topper because I figured anything bigger would look too big. I think it would also depend on what the letter is. Mine is a P so I only have to deal with one stake in it.... for a letter that has a bigger bottom (like an 'M') it's going to take up more room.... I probably didn't help you at all, but that was my rationale.
I just checked out that link... you can get them a lot cheaper on ebay. I got mine for $23!

Re: Those that have bought monogram cake toppers
I have no idea how big my cake is. Did you get one letter or three?
Who did you get from on Ebay?
Thanks

I got one letter. I thought it would look too cluttered with 3. I got mine from blueargylecom.

I just figured a 4 inch letter was big enough to be seen from far. So that's what I went with... XOXOXO Kitty

Re: Those that have bought monogram cake toppers
The top of my cake is about 6' ( I asked BM), so I got 2 letters and '&' in small size from www.topthecake.com
