I feel like each year is different, this december was 8 years that my dad passed away and its always kind of weird because it was the week before christmas. But some years are better than others, its always just kind of a weirdness

The best thing you can do is listen. Unfortunately he's going to feel bad around these times whether it's one year or ten years. Don't go to overboard trying to make him feel better, that can get irritating and he may feel like he can't talk to you. Just listen and be there.

my dad passed away 17 years ago....and each year it is different. the anniversary of his death is always hard, but as for the holiday's, it changes.

the only advice i can give you is just be supportive and listen to what he's saying/thinking.

fh's dad passed away when he was 13 and he has mentioned on numerous occassions that he misses him now more then ever (def hinting at the fact that he wishes he was here to help him adjust to being engaged and eventually married) All I usually do is listen and ask if there is anything he wants to do (visit his grave, go some place he used to with him, work on the memorial stuff for the wedding). Other then that there is not much to do. I dont know how your parents are but my dad especially has been working hard to let him know he now considers fh his son...although he isnt trying to replace his dad I think it comforts fh to know he has that older male their for support.

FH's dad passed away about 10 years ago, and the best thing to do is listen.... ive taken him to places and shows he went with his dad to and he really appreciated that.

My dad passed away almost 12 years ago... some years the anniversary hits me like a ton of bricks, some years I'm in a wicked bad mood... and I don't even realize why... and some years it passes and I don't really even think about it.

I miss him a lot more now that I'm engaged and getting married, he'd get a kick out of this. LOL, my dad used to me up on blind dates all the time when I was in my late teens early 20s with people he met at the bar or the racetrack... good times

Just listen... FH does that for me, but don't get aggravated if he gets frustrated... It'll pass, and you'll know the right things to do.

I think the best thing you can do is just be by his side to comfort him and let him know you are there for him now and always and of course that you share his pain!
