Have you had a problem with a lot of stuff getting discontinued or not being available? Like dinnerware and whatnot?
I found that quite a bit of what I wanted to select was limited availability or no longer available. And this was stuff recommended for the gift registery....

Re: Those who registered at Crate and Barrel...
This didn't happen to me. I registered in March and all of my dinnerware and stemware is still available. The only things that did get discontinued was the seasonal stuff and my placemats. I kind of mentioned the seasonal stuff to my mom as soon as I registered and an aunt picked it up before it got discontinued.
I got almost everything on my registry at the my shower in Sept. The rest got cleaned out on my wedding.
I love their stuff.

Re: Those who registered at Crate and Barrel...
Yup, had this problem. We got engaged last Dec., broke up in June (long story) and then got re-engaged about 2 months ago and when I looked at our registry on line, our dishes were discontinued and our flatware looks like it's on its way out, too (which irks me since i really liked both). Other things were discontinued, too. I would say if there's going to be a long time between you registering and your shower, register for dishes/flatware elsewhere.

Thanks for the responses...
Which patterns did you both register for?

Re: Those who registered at Crate and Barrel...
Can't remember the dishes and since they're not there anymore, can't tell you but they were variation of dark blue. I found ones that I liked better at Bed Bath & Beyond where I'm also registered.
Flatware is Thames. That's not discontinued yet but limited. I haven't registered for different flatware, hoping somebody will buy it.
I called C&B, there probably is more of your stuff there at the warehouse but somebody going to the store and seeing it's discontinued is not going to know that.

With Crate and Barrel, some of their stuff is seasonal, so you do need to be careful. But, a great deal of their stuff is referred to as the 'gift collection' and won't go away.
We registered with them and revisited our selections when the Spring and then Summer catalogs came out.....

That's just the thing, the 'gift collection' stuff I want is very limited availability, or no longer available.

Re: Those who registered at Crate and Barrel...
That is the one downer about C&B. They rotate their stuff so often that sometimes it get discontinued very quickly. We registered for everyday dishes there and we have gotten 3 out of the 8 placesettings we requested so far. And it is no longer available for purchase on the website! AND I love this china. It is the blue one with the stripes on the mugs and the dots on the bowls. So I went to Crate and Barrel and explained my situation that I registered for this, etc and I had them check the stock. And there were only 100 of the mugs and bowls left, but plenty of the plates. So I bought the mugs and bowls I would need to complete my set just incase I don't get them for my shower. And if I do get them all, I will return the ones I bought. So it is a little crazy, but I really wanted to have what we picked out originally!

This didn't happen to me either. Although, they do advise you not to register too far in advance, as some stuff does get discontinued during certain seasons.
Since the wedding, I have only gotten one notice in the mail that our flatware was discontinued in the stores, and can ONLY be ordered through their catalog. This doesn't bother me b/c the only thing I still need is my hostess set, which I will order once we are in our new house.
Otherwise, I have noticed that certain things that were unavailable shortly after the wedding are now available again b/c the seasonal thing. For example, the Napa wine table that we registered for was unavailable last summer, but now it's back in stock. Boy, do I wish there really was a santa claus!!
It's the only place I have found everyday dinnerware that I actually like, but I have to doubt whether I'll even see all of it. I love the Gallery Parchment collection, but it's all limited availability.
What's the point in having a bridal registry with gift collections if they run out of everything?!

Re: Those who registered at Crate and Barrel...
I registered for Orchid for my everyday dishes. I mostly registered at Macy's. C&B was only my everyday dishes, glasses, barware and some other fun stuff like pitchers, ice cream bowls, etc.
I can tell you that a few of my gifts had problems being delivered (people ordered them while we were on our honeymoon so we weren't home to receive them) and they have been very easy to deal with. I have been on the phone with them all week.
Also, things mysteriously were added to my registry which I found out that someone can buy you something and have it put on your registry (It says wants 0 and has 1) so people would know they bought you it and you won't get duplicates. Just be careful 'cause my mom ordered something for my brother at the same time she bought something from my registry and my brother's gift got added to my registry. My DH who was a registry peeker all along thought we were getting a wine rack!
I love that wine rack!!!!!!! We put it on our registry and were so excited when we got it!

I guess I'm just going to have to hold off for a little while longer on the registry...wait and see if more stuff becomes available!
I love that wine rack! But I picked the smaller table top one for now.

I registered for the Roullette Blue dishes (white w/ navy stripe) and the same glasses pictured above. I expect the seasonal stuff to be discontinued, but I'm hoping that the everyday stuff sticks around until my shower!

Re: Those who registered at Crate and Barrel...
The dishes we registered for have been around for a while, but they just started making matching serving pieces; so I think they'll keep the pattern. I was just looking online and a couple of things we chose say limited quantity available, so I might just have to buy myself some christmas presents.
that happened on some seasonal stuff but not on my dishes and china. I did notice that they'd go on and off backorder, but I got the whole set without a problem.
Even when things aren't available online, they're often in the store. Guests can call in an order an ship it.
ps - we got the Napa wine table!

I registered in March and there was only one thing that was discontinued so far. That is where we registered for most of our stuff so I guess we are kind of lucky!

Re: Those who registered at Crate and Barrel...
Yes, I have the same problem. At least they send a postcard to warn us that our china pattern is discontinuing and the same with other kitchen accessories. I am disappointed to see things that are unique but useful to be discontinued or no longer available. Either it's too popular and sold out or it was not a favorite. It happens all the time. Sometimes if you see something that you're just dying to have/want put it on your registry or purchase it on your own, don't let the opportunity slip.
