...when did you bring them photos of ideas? Did they make the cake you wanted or did you pick from their portfolio? Around how long before your wedding did you settle the cake? Where you charged extra for anything?

Did they make the cake you wanted or did you pick from their portfolio? They made the exact cake I wanted!
Around how long before your wedding did you settle the cake? Not sure I understand the question... But I chose my cake about 2 weeks before and brought them the picture the week before when we did our final menu and paid in full.
Where you charged extra for anything? Nope, not at all. And my cake was buttercream and fondant...my hall was awesome!

we upgraded to a fondant with swiss dots b/c we didn't like the standard one they offered. we picked it from their portfolio just last week for our sept. wedding.

Yeah, I just wanted to get an idea of approximately how long it takes for them to make the cake, I know each hall varies, but just wanted to get an idea of a time frame (in regards to my question about how long before did you have to settle the cake).

I didnt like the cakes they offered so I upgraded to another one that they offered for extra charge (it looks pretty much like the picture I brought with me).... it is costing us $3.00 per person...

We sorta upgraded too. Our Hall only had 1 choice. But the bakery next door (they're cousins of the Hall) and they had these 3 other cakes and we could pick from.

No I did not pick from their portfolio I picked my own cake and brought in a picture.
I brought them a picture of the cake a few weeks before the wedding.
No I was not charged extra.. even though I got red velvet ( Originally I was told I would be charged extra but I never was)
I did however have ALOT of fresh flowers on my cake and I had to pay my florist to take care of that.

My hall offers the cake in its package. They have a few choices so I am not going crazy and will just choose one from their portofolio. We also get to choose different flavors.

They showed me books and they had a ton of different flavors and fillings. They had cakes that were included in the package, and cakes that were more $$ and not included. The selection was fine; I just knew I wanted black forest!

Our cake was included with the price of the hall. We brought in a picture about 1 week before the weddng. It looked EXACTLY like the picture! We were NOT charged extra! (only if we picked a fondant we would have been charged more $)

Our cake is included w/the Hall.
They have a huge portfolio w/about three dozen cake selections to choose from. I found my top 5, and if worse comes to worse and I want something different, they'll do it (considering it's not something impossible.)

Our cake is part of our package but I fell in love with a cake that was an upgrade of $125 which is fine by us.
Here is our cake but we're having it done in all white with white shells.
