Can you give me an idea of what you spent while you were on vacation? We're trying to figure out if we can afford to go for our HM and it would help a great deal if we were able to estimate spending money. We already have a price for air & hotel, so it's just the cost while we're there that we're worried about.

Re: Those who've been to Hawaii...
Let me add:
The 12 day Hawaii vacation would cost us 5700 (air, hotels, inter-island flights, & rental car).
We also considered going to Vegas for 4 days and then to St. Lucia for 8 days. That trip would cost us 5500.
Initially, the second option seemed more reasonable, financially. It wasn't until 20 minutes ago that I realized my FI would be gambling in Vegas and we might spend close to 3000 while there (he doesn't gamble often, but when he does, there's no stopping him).
Now I'll sit back and hope that some of you can assist me here :)

Re: Those who've been to Hawaii...
I forgot exactly how much we spent but I think it was around $2500. We stayed in a timeshare that was a gift from my DH's brother so we were able to splurge on a lot there. Like the helicopter tour was $179 each. Other days we did the beach/snorkeling so we didn't spend any money. If you look at my review you can see everything we did. We did A LOT! We usually spent a lot of money on dinner, about $50 a night, but cooked breakfast and lunch a lot at our hotel so that saved some $$. Here's a link to our VERY LONG Hawaii review with tons of pictures.

Re: Those who've been to Hawaii...
i think we spent about 1500 while we were there for 8 days (2 of us). waikiki (island of oahu) wasn't that expensive to do a lot of the activities - snorkeling, jet skiing, and they pick you up too!
if you decide to go to oahu, you have to go to the polynesian cultural center. we had the most fun there.
i've also been to maui and def spent more money there than on oahu. everything was expensive.
i don't know if that helps.

It does help and I thank you. We'd be in Oahu for 1 night, Maui for 6 nights, and Kona (Big Island) for 4 nights.

We also bought a Entertainment Book for Hawaii. We saved alot by using the coupons (buy one dinner, get one free...) and we used that on alot of our lunches and dinners & some of our activities which saved us some big $$.

oooh, this is a good tip. I didn't even think of that. I'll have to remember that for when we're in Hawaii!
NYTherapist, what hotels are you staying at? Your quote is a lot lower than what we booked for, so I'm just curous! (We're also going for 15 days, but still...)

Re: Those who've been to Hawaii...
We spent less than $2000 while we were there for 10 days. We only did one excursion on Maui and on Kauai we just took a road trip one day. We were really just too lazy to do anymore.
To keep costs down, we only did two Islands. Honestly, I would have died if I had to get on a plane more than that! Flying from Island to island, takes up almost a whole day and we were dead tired.
If you can afford it, it is definately worth the trip!

We'll be at the Hyatt in Oahu, Hyatt in Maui, & Hilton Waikoloa Village in Kona (Big Island). We might swtich and go to Kauai instead of Kona.
