Though we are modern women, do you have some old fashioned type views?

Though we are modern women, do you have some old fashioned type views?

I will admit I do.

Here are some examples:

1. When DH and I go out to dinner and I put out the cash to pay- I always make him give it to the waiter.

2. When we go out to a play or concert I make DH give the ticket taker the tickets

3. When preparing dinner I ALWAYS serve DH his plate.

4. I.e at our wedding we received compliments on certain aspects- they were clearly my ideas, but I shared credit with DH.

Though Dh and I are equals, I do cater to his ego and make him feel like he is the king of our castle. I like for him to be in control sometimes.

Why do I do this, I do not know but it works.

DH usually drives.

When we go out with other people, he handles the money.

Sometimes... DH opens doors for me but not because I ask him to or expect it. I'm really just traditional about dinners, I always cook for him. I feel like I should, as his wife... and I think he should be the one to make more money and take care of the finances (which he does). Other than that, I'm pretty independent... being raised by a single mom for most of my adolescent years really took a toll on me, and as a result I am very much a 'pants-wearer' in the relationship!

I am really dependent on almost everything. I cook not because I am his wife but because I love to cook. Days that I don't cook hubby know that he has to go out and get us something to eat because I need a break at times. I do do most of the cleaning but I ask him to take out the garbage. I do all finances. He irons his own clothes. Sometimes I will iron for him if he tells me what he is wearing then I will do it but not becuase I feel I have to. I pay for dinner or he pays doesn't matter whoever has the money on them at the time.

My hubby loves me for being that independent person. Sometimes he tells me that he doesn't see himself with a traditional wife.

I never really though about it too much, but the check thing I always do myself. I guess becuase I was a bartender for so long I like to give any good service that extra credit they deserve for a job well done.

I think we are just mutually poilte to each other, not necessarily based on gender. (but I do like it when he opens car doors & such)

these things are nice b/c we are partners - not b/c they are 'roles'...I was shocked DH said yesterday...'I LOVE MY LIFE PARTNER' (I don't know where that came from...he usually says wife...

he holds the cash, b/c I am completely irresponsible...I only want to carry a debit/credit card...

I make dinner...b/c i am sadly unemployed (I also have been hanging all the paintings and hardware since we just moved)

the one thing that I was upset with is that DH stumbled ordering wine (couldn't remember what we picked), so I told the waiter what we wanted - and I had to do the cork smelling and tasting...

I'm the opposite. I don't cook, I rarely serve him, I handle the finances and eventually, I'll probably earn twice his salary... and quite honestly, I know I'm lucky because not that many men could not deal with someone like me. I know my place - its in the office! He does open doors for me and always helps me out of the car, but other than that, I'm not a very traditional girl when it comes to my homelife.

ETA: He does most of the driving and he usually orders for me in a restaurant.

I make him deal with all construction type things. We both cook. He holds doors and pulls out chairs more when we are alone. I pay the bills. He splurges more and actually yells that I don't treat myself enough.

Not really. We both cook, clean, do laundry, take out garbage, drive, pay etc. etc. We hold doors for each other (whoever gets to it first holds it), we handle finances together, and so on. Although right now I am not working once I go back to work, very soon I hope, nothing will change either.

I suppose for me it may come from being married before to a man who wasn't very responsible. I got used to doing everthing. Then I was single for 7 years before DH and I got married so I had to do everything for my self. He was by himself for a long time before we got married so he is the same way. I like being independent anyway so it doesn't bother me.

i don't think we are very traditional. the only areas we are is that i do 90% of the cleaning and he handles the bills (mainly b/c i never pay on time!) but we split the cooking and dishes, but mostly we eat out. we each do our own laundry, sometimes he'll hold the door, sometimes i'll hold it. one thing i will never do though is serve him dinner. that's just too weird for me. i'll put it on the table, but he's gotta get it to his plate on his own

Kysha, I do stuff like that too. It does work and I think it makes him feel as if he is taking care of me or being a man lol.

Same here. I like my independance and feel that I couldn't be in a successful relationship without it - I wouldn't be whole enough to share myself, if that makes sense. It works very well for the both of us.

Just wanted to say I am VERY independent as is my DH. I was just trying to figure out how many of us integrate new ways of doing things with the old.

I think we're both middle of the road... Our roles in the home are more traditional, but how we treat each other is not. I do most of the domestic stuff. DH helps, but he works much more than I do because he considers it mainly 'his' responsibility to make most of the $$$ - I could stay home after the baby if I wanted to. He also does all the technical and 'repair' stuff around the house and he's responsible for anything having to do with the car. He also does all the gardening and yardwork.
As far as decision making though, I would say we are definitely more 'modern'. I take care of the finances and I choose how we invest our money. DH always asks for my opinion/advice when making decisions that affect his business. He totally supports my career and is very supportive of my graduate studies also. I am definitely much more opinionated than he is so I always have something to say about everything - definitely not an old fashioned woman!

Although we share all the home duties we were very traditional prior to getting married- we wouldn't live together, waited to see eachother before the wedding until I walked down the aisle, etc.
