Thought I'd share some notes on When 'I DO' Doesn't Last Also some preventative tips to keep your marriage strong.
We recently had a series of messages in church entitled, 'Fight Club' The topics were: Worth Fighting For, More Than Roommates, Great Sex (attendance went up considerably with that one!!
), Affair Proof, Fight Fair, Surviving Storms, and When 'I DO' Doesn't Last. Since Debi's Sis, is a divorced single Mom, and she felt this last message was good, I thought I'd share some of the notes. I think they can be beneficial to all of us.
Marriages die from a thousand wounds that go untreated.
Many buy into the illusion that divorce is the easiest way out.
1. There are economic costs- women and children lower their standard of living.
2. There's the cost of depression, loneliness, poor self esteem, and bitterness.
3. There are relational costs, especially with children.
To experience healing after divorce.......
Let go of the past and face reality
Learn to accept responsibility-there is no such thing as a no fault divorce.
Learn to forgive-let go of your right to hurt the person who has hurt you.
Walk closely with GOD, one day at a time, and talk to GOD as you walk with GOD.
Psalm 34 ' THE LORD is close to the brokenhearted'
God's plan is bigger than any problem or person in my life.
CAUTION-Don't jump into a new relationship-be patient-wait two yrs. after death or divorce.
Some preventatives..........
Instead of treating each other with contempt, treat each other with honor.
Instead of a chronic spirit of negative criticism, develop a spirit of encouragement.
Instead of being defensive, ' be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger.
Don't withdraw- it's not fighting and anger that kills the marriage, it's choosing to withdraw.
Success or failure occurs in the small, ordinary moments.
Fighting for relationships is not a heroic thing,it's just a daily thing.
GOD never lets go of HIS children!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Forgive me in advance, but I trust these words do not bring offense or sadness to anyone, just encouragement.
