I am considering a saturday afternoon wedding as opposed to an evening wedding. What are the pros and cons. Any thoughts?
Than you for the help so far

Re: Thoughts about day or night?
depends on where it is.
I'd LOVE a sat night wedding but the venue we love would be wasted at night bc of the water..no one would be able to see it.
also obviously there's the price issue. sat nights are crazy expensive.

Just off the top of my head:
Pro: it might cost less being an afternoon afair and if you want to still party you could do an after party type deal...
Con: you have to be ready a lot earlier than you would if you did a night wedding... time crunch can be hard on the bride & groom...

There are pros and cons to both.
I personally prefer a night wedding. If money is the issue and you want a night wedding maybe consider a Friday night they are always more affordable

Re: Thoughts about day or night?
We originally had a Saturday night wedding scheduled at a location on the water.
When we started to check out photograhpers, I realized, that for our location, we would miss out on the scenery. And potentially not make it for sunset photos.
So we opted to change our wedding to a day wedding. Our church was at 11 and our RH was from 1 to 7 (we had the viennesse hour). Plus we saved $15pp with our switch for the same everything. Which was great.
We woke up at about 530/600 for hair and makeup to start around 630. I had myself, MOH and 3 BM's, my mom and aunt for hair and makeup. We were ready by 10:30.
It was nice at the end of the evening to go back to the hotel and relax with our family and friends.
To each his own. It's really what you expect out of your day.

Re: Thoughts about day or night?
There are definitely pros and cons to both. Since your date is in the summer, chances are it will still be light out til 8-9 pm so you would still be able to take advantage if your RH has an outdoor area in the evening. For an afternoon wedding in August, it might be really hot!
However, afternoon weddings are generally less expensive than evenings. I've been to both evening and day weddings and I can say that I've had an equally awesome time at both!
One pro to the day wedding that I went to was that it was over by 5 and the bride and groom organized an 'afterparty' at the hotel with kickball, pizza and beer and it was super fun.

Re: Thoughts about day or night?
I'm having a Saturday night wedding and I am so glad that I spend the money on that. Because it gets darker sooner in March, we chose a place with a beautiful inside not so much outside because no one would see it anyway. It all depends on what venue and look you are going for.

Agreed. We absolutely could not afford a saturday night wedding. We had a Friday night and it was awesome! It was like a kick off to the weekend!

Re: Thoughts about day or night?
The main difference i think between a day and night wedding really is the cost.
We are doing a Sunday evening.. which saved us a decent amount of money. our ceremony starts at 5 and the party is from 630-1130 ( we are adding the Viennese hour) so we get the pleasure of part day, sunset and night time...
It really all depends on what your preferences are though.

Re: Thoughts about day or night?
I think it totally is a person thing. I wanted a friday night, just cause it would have been fri the 13th....but my mom was like hell no, we need a sat night. And, come to think of it, sat is eaiser on my guests and bridal party than fri. as for day or night, $ is a big factor...but for me, i like night affairs. no0 rushing beforehand, cause lord knows my lazy butt likes sleep lol

Re: Thoughts about day or night?
Originally I was going to book a Sat afternoon wedding in September. I thought it was a great idea ... we were so happy with the price and we wanted to take pics outside in the beautiful gardens, etc... then I asked friends and family their opinions... (but in the end I am glad I did)
My family tends to be late to most affairs... (they were an embarrassing hour late to my Eparty)... and if it weren't for my FH I would have been late as well... so considering we would have to get up super early (our cermony is at a church), I didn't see that working out
Also, since we have OOT guests we knew that a Friday night wedding would not work either since some of them are in the BP and they would need to go to the rehearsal dinner. (which would have been the Thursday before)
So... we opted to change the date (mainly for budget puposes) and make it a Sat night in March. Price didn't change, but the season of the year did... we may have snow, rain, sleet or sun... I guess we will see
I guess it depends on your specific situation, but I think these are things you should consider. Also, an after party can get expensive so if you were planning on a day wedding because it's less expensive don't forget to factor in the price of the after party... it all adds up!
Good luck (and sorry for the novel)!

Re: Thoughts about day or night?
We are having a Sat afternoon wedding for alot of reasons:
-It is on the water and we want picutres outside.
-the cost-it is cheaper
-the most important for us is our guests. FH'S dad is 85 and he has a group of elderly folks, and I have my 10 nieces and nephews (3-12 years of age)... The earlier end time will allow everyone to have fun and get home at reasonable time and it will be safer for the oldtimers.
-We can get home at a decent hr and finally have alone time that day and prepare for our honeymoon trip the next morning.
Do what is best for you... See what is the most important and then go with it.

Re: Thoughts about day or night?
we had a day wedding, but because it was in January it wound up being through sunset so we had outdoor pics in the daylight, and evening pics with the uplighting being showcased.
Pros: more cost effective sometimes you get more daylight for photos It ends earlier, so there is time for an after party It ends earlier, so if its a sunday people will be more likely to stay till end rather than leave early to go to bed for work
Cons: hair and makeup at 6am... seriously... May not get pictures in the evening more traffic to contend with leaving or getting to the hall you are up early, so you get tired earlier (i was up at 5:30)

Re: Thoughts about day or night?
We are having a Sun Afternoon wedding by choice.
The venue we selected has beautiful grounds and having it at night, we would lose that.
We have a LOT of guests that work weekends. People that work Sat, would not be getting home from work til 7PM - shower, get dressed - they would not be ready to be out of the house til 8-830PM. When on earth would our ceremony start?
Thought about Sat afternoon, but again the work thing.
Sun afternoon has the least amount of potential guests working and those that are, I made sure they would be able to take off. Plus, the recept ends at 7, so people will still be home early enough to go to work
Our ceremony is at 1230, so people can still have a relaxing morning and/or go to church.
A friend of ours has graciously offered to host an after party at his home for close personal friends, we figure 20-30 people tops, so there is no added expense for us for that.
It all depends on the venue, how well you know yous guests sched and MOST IMPORTANTLY what you want.

Re: Thoughts about day or night?
We went with a Saturday afternoon, the biggest reason being price. At our hall, the price difference on the base package was around $50 or something outrageous like that. FH agreed there was no way we were going to pay that much just for a few hours difference. We're getting married the weekend Daylight Savings Time starts, so we think it will be getting dark when our reception ends at 6 PM. We had too many OOTs so a Friday night or Sunday simply were not possible.
Cons of course are getting up early and having the party end early. But these sacrifices are going to be worth it in the end I think.

ITA!
We really want a night wedding, so we choose a Friday night to save money. We worked it around a holiday weekend though.

Re: Thoughts about day or night?
personally i enjoy saturday evening weddings..but may be you can compromise and have something early evening, in between the day and night, this way you get a bit of both and can get pics in the sun and under the stars

I chose day because the place I'm getting married is gorgeous during the day.. photography at night in the winter everything will be dark very early.
