Thoughts on registering for China

Thoughts on registering for China

I don't think I am going to register for China. My finace and I have never lived together and I feel that when we do we are going to need everything... the BASICS! If someone is going to buy us something I rather it be something I know we need and will use everyday. I don't want to get stuck with half a china set and have to buy the rest...

Curious to see what your thoughts are on this?

Re: Thoughts on registering for China

that makes sense, we have been living together for almost 3 years when we moved i took alot of stuff from my house wich was being sold at the same time of the move. I took so much stuff, like pots, pans, just everyday kitchen stuff. Also his mom gave us a set of every day dishes wich we use all the time.

How soon do you plan on registering?

Are you guys going to live together before or do you plan on moving in right after the wedding?

I think that if you move in before that will give you time to get everyday stuff...honestly target, bed bath, have great prices on everyday sets of dishes, glasses, and utensils very cheap!!

If you know people will buy you china i say go for it and put it on your registry the worst that happens is no one gets it for you!

I personally do not even want China. I am an everyday type of girl, and the only time I would really host something nice would be at the holidays (so I would be more likely to get holiday dishes before china). Any other time I do not feel my dishes are that ugly that people will not come over again after seeing my plates.!!!

My mom just has dumploads of it and it sits there and does nothing. I have to dust everything in the China hutch and I just don't want that.

I will wait for my China to be passed on to me, when I will make my children dust it.

We don't have plans on moving in together until we are married. We want to save up as much money as we can so that when that time comes, we can buy a house.. that is out ultimate goal!

I feel like that too. I know it is just going to sit there and collect dust. And is it worth it to store it for the 2 times a year I might use it? Maybe in the future I will buy myself a set. For now I think I'll register for the essentials.

FH and I both still live at home, so we have nothing too!

id rather get things id use everyday rather than china. my grandmother is giving me hers. it is very 1950s, but it will be back in style one day, plus now its an heirloom!

Re: Thoughts on registering for China

I'd like to register for China because we use it for the holidays and stuff but my problem is I haven't found a pattern that I really love and if people are going to be spending average of $100 a place setting I better love it!

yea I agree. I refuse to register for anything that is over $100 cause I know I won't get it if it's too expensive!

Re: Thoughts on registering for China

i completely understand! i think my plates are $70 for a place setting and i am freaking out bc i think no one is going to buy them - but usually my family will buy the whole set of 12 so i am not TOO worried

i was trying to keep the prices down but you know what? i have been to tons of showers with settings over $100 and they have gotten them so i didnt want to settle for something i didnt like!

I agree... I am not registering for china or stemware. I don't see the point. No one in my family uses it. My mother has hers displayed in a china closet and only takes it out to clean it. I'd rather people buy my stuff I need. FH agrees with me. He doesn't like too much clutter so that's one piece of furniture we don't need.

yea I just want to be more practical.

My cousin did the 150 a plate vera wang too. and didn't even get a complete set... so she'll have to go and purchase the rest on her own.
