Threat at Smithtown High School?

Threat at Smithtown High School?

Has anyone else heard about this? According to the info I heard on myspace, a kid wrote on a desk about having a columbine like attack on May 11. It's going to be on the 530 edition of News 12 (my friend who works there told me).

Anyone work there or have a sibling go there that knows more about this?

I'm a teacher in the smithtown SD and did not hear about this! WOW! We are usually the last to know.

I also went to smithtown HS. It can happen anywhere!

Thank God me and DH are elementary teachers. It must be very scary. I'm sure they have everything under control, but WOW!

Not for nothing, but during my years at Smithtown HS, there were two stabbings and quite a few other things that went on, so I'm NOT surprised.

true..i am shocked at some of the things that kids do at that school! But i am sure that kinda stuff goes on in all schools

Not for nothing, but during my years at Smithtown HS, there were two stabbings and quite a few other things that went on, so I'm NOT surprised.

Just curious when you went to Smithtown, b/c when I was there the only thing that happened was somebody poked someone with a compass Not exactly a 'stabbing'. Nothing bad happened when my brother was there either.

I don't know about the other stabbing though.

In 2000, we had 3 or 4 bomb threats in one day. And then we had to revert to the checking of backpacks as we walked in the rest of the year.

Actually, I was there in '97 and the boy that was 'stabbed' was a good friend on mine- you're story is a bit off. That was the compass incident. Yes, the boy who did it was not a good kid- he refered to my friend as a racial slur and and then proceeded to poke him with a compass. Nothing bad happened to him at all. As for the other kid, he was sent to the New York Avenue School, never to return.

I don't know about the bomb threats b/c they were after I graduated---but they tend to amount to nothing more than student pranks, and they happen in every school.

Huh, I didn't know it was with a compass. I was at the 9th grade campus at the time, and the story that got back to us was that he was stabbed. Was never actually told what he was stabbed with, now that i think about it. The bomb threats were my senior year. We evacuated 2 or 3 times that day.

As for the backpack searches, they essentially glanced in them after the first week, they wouldn't have known if you had anything buried. It was kind of pointless

I can't say I'm surprised that the 'stabbing' incident got blown out of proportion amongst all of the rumors- it is high school after all. The only reason I know the real story is b/c I was friends with him. I think too many of these stories get blown way out of proportion, but ever since Columbine police and educators alike can never be sure when to take things seriously and when it is a practical joke- not that it is EVER funny. I just think it's sad.

Yeah - it's awful. That's why they had to evacuate us for every 'bomb threat' just in case it was real. According to the story on news 12 last night, they've narrowed it down to less than 12 suspects through writing samples. I wonder how accurate that is... Crazy.
