Frogive me as I realized I didnt post Wed's ? until Thurs I am posting 2 ?'s today - for Thursday & Friday:

Thursday's ?: Where is the farthest wedding guest for your wedding coming from/ or came from?

Friday's ?:How were you proposed to, and was it a total surprise (did you talk about it beforehand & knew it was eventually coming, or did it come out of left field & totally shock you?)

Also a part (a) to this ? as well: did your FH/DH ask for your hand before he asked you??



My answers:
We just found about 2 years befoe we got engaged about a cousin of DH's that lives in Germany that he never knew about or met before. We have been corresponding with him & his wife through emails until the wedding. They came all the wasy from Germany to meets us 2 days before the wedding & then helped us celebrate our special day. It was so touching for both of us to finally meet them & for them to have travelled such a great distance for us.


My DH's proposal:

1st off let me start by saying DH had been married once before & was very badly burned - both emotionally & financially - so he swore he'd never let another woman hurt him that way again. Well after 5 years & 2 months - DH let himself trust someone else with his heart again...for keeps. Christmas 2008- DH 'tricked' me by wrapping a bunch of presents and bringing them to my parents house. He kept me waiting until 8 p.m. Christmas Day night to let me open my presents. When I got to open my 1st present - there was a DVD inside - DH took it out and put it into our laptop computer and played it for me - on the DVD was a powerpoint of all different pictures of us throughout our 5 year relationship. In the powerpoint was a song by the country singer John Berry titled - 'Will You Marry Me?' - and the lyrics to the song were incorporated into the slides of the powerpoint as well. DH stood behind me as I watched and listened in disbelief. When it was over, he spun me around, got down on one knee, took out the ring and asked me to to marry him, asked me to be his wife. I was shaking and crying as he put the ring on my finger. Of course I said 'YES!' I asked DH if anyone else knew & he told me that only my dad & his parents knew. I was SO touched that he had asked for my dad's hand before asking for mine. I asked him if we could go downstairs and tell everyone (for most of my family was still there) and DH said 'of course.' I went dowstairs & my brother saw me 1st - and saw the tears on my face & asked if everything was ok - when I showed him my hand with the ring on it - my brother's eyes got as big as teacups & he bearhugged me off the floor. Then we went into the dining room/family room and told everyone - 'We need your attention - we have an announcement to make - WE'RE ENGAGED!' and everyone jumped up out of their seats and was clapping and cheering & crying & hugging & kissing & cameras were going off like it was the Oscars. It was truly the best night of my life/our lives!

1. I have family coming from Israel!!!! What an aamazing surprise. We havent seen them in Years!!

2. He DID ask my mom, dad, and brothers for my hand. He also called my uncle and said 'im doing this right'. My uncle (and everyone knew) we were at that point and they were riding him pretty hard.

He promised my uncle he would tell him when he was going to propose.

1) My MOH came from Paris with her boyfriend. That was the farthest although we had 84 OOT guests.


2) I knew it was coming sometime soon, but not sure when. The weekend it happened however it was a huge shock. I knew DH knew already when and where it would happen, and that weekend we were not supposed to be together. DH was supposed to be with BIL on an Adorandack Romp (boating event), but BIL ended up in the hospital with appendicitis. So we went to the shore that weekend instead. Friday night we went to our favorite restaurant down there by boat and then went for a a walk on the beach. He proposed that night on the beach under the stars. I was SHOCKED. I thought maybe Memorial Day weekend or the weekend before it actually happened on Fire Island, but never dreamt it would be then.

Turns out, he wanted to do it Memorial Day weekend but the ring wasn't ready in time. So then he planned it for the weekend before he proposed to do it on FI but the ring didn't come in until Sunday. So he spontaneously did it the next weekend, instead of trying to plan it again.

1. The furthest OOT guest we have attending are actually my aunt and uncle from Australia! I was so happy and surprised when she emailed me to say she got the time off of work and they were coming! My cousin (their daughter) is going to school in Boston now so I guess she doesn't count as another person from Australia does she?

2. I was surprised when he did it - not that he actually proposed. I knew he was ring shopping but I didn't know when it was coming. And part 2 of this question - no FH did not ask for my hand. He proposed right before my 40th bday - I would have been p!ssed if he had and he knows that about me, but that's just my opinion.

As of right now, our furthest guests are from NJ (4 people, FMIL's best friend and husband, and a former coworker of FH and his guest) and upstate NY (FH's uncle and aunt). We have a TON of OOT guests who haven't responded...so the answer could be Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, or Rhode Island. If they EVER FLIPPING RESPOND. The only people we are actually anticipating of this bunch to possibly come is FMIL's cousin and his family from NC, and maybe my father's Aunt and Uncle in RI. Otherwise, they're all not going to come, and it's really becoming a big bone of contention. Ugh.

As for the other QOTD, it wasn't a surprise at all. We always talked about marriage but I was still in college at the time, I know he started the ring search process the last semester of my senior year, it took him like 6-8 months to pick a stone, another 5 months to pick a setting, and I knew that he wasn't going to propose until after he got his MBA in May 2008, and he proposed the end of June 2008. I knew he spoke to my father the week he did it, and then he had to tell me on the Friday before he proposed that he was doing it that weekend because FMIL made a really insensitive comment about if I was going to a family engagement party, which FH had hid from me because he knew I'd get upset because I thought he was dragging his feet and if I knew that his cousin was engaged, so he just didn't tell me. So when I lost my shiz and started crying he had to tell me not to worry because it was imminent. Oh well!
