*~*~*~Thursday QOTD*~*~*~

This is an oldie, but goodie......and let's face it, we all love telling our story.

Tell us your engagement story!

Mine was 2 days before the 9 year anniversary of the day we met, and 1 month and 2 days short of our 9 year dating anniversary.

During an intense game of Rock Band, FH asked when we were exchanging Christmas gifts and told me mine was under the tree. It was a beautiful hand-crafted Disney centerpiece with Mickey Mouse and Pluto riding a sleigh. Now, a little backstory. We had recently moved into our new house, and we were using a spare bedroom for storage. A friend of ours had spent the night the day before, so while I was at work, FH cleared out the bedroom so we could accomodate our friend. Little did he know, his Christmas gift was in a box in that bedroom's closet. When I went to get FH's gift out of the closet, I noticed he had piled all of boxes that were being stored in the bedroom on top of the box with his gift in the closet!. I asked him to help me move the boxes, and as he put one of the boxes down, it had a ring box on it. I stopped in my tracks, saw the box, and said 'What's that???' FH told me it was nothing. I responded with 'No seriously, what is it.' He told me to open it myself and find out.

I opened it and immediately said 'Are you serious???' FH said no and took it back. He took the ring out of the box, and began to put it on my finger, but I noticed he was putting it on my right hand! I quickly corrected him, and after he put the ring on the correct finger, I started hugging and kissing him. It was then that he suddenly said 'So you haven't answered me.' My response was 'You haven't asked me anything.' He looked me dead in the eye and said....'So, you wanna?'

For our first Christmas together (in 2006), DH made me a scrapbook with pics of our first date, first vacation together, etc. We've added pages on to it since then. In early March 08 he borrowed the book to 'show someone at work who was getting married.' (He was lying. )

On St. Patty's Day he came over with a full dinner (corned beef, potatoes, etc) and had me look through the scrapbook again. He had made a St. Patrick’s Day page with a poem and the ring tied to it. Then he told me I had to stand up and said all of the nicest things, I said, “But I’m in my pajamas!” and then cried for like 10 mins before calling everyone I knew.

DH and I were celebrating our anniversary a few days early (we had been dating for 360 days!), since we had our board interview on our co-op on our anniversary (romantic, I know). The day actually started out in my college town, where we had brunch with some of our best friends (non-related to DH's plans for the day!). Then we drove into the city to go to Top of the Rock at sunset, which we'd never been to before. (DH later told me he thought about doing it there but got the heebie jeebies because there were so many people there! Which I was eternally grateful for, because where he did it was so much better!)

After the sun set, we drove back into Brooklyn and recreated one of our first dates, which was dinner at an Italian restaurant and then sitting at the Promenade (which is 'our place' - we spent so much time there when we first started dating, we fell in love there).

DH had been saying wonderful things to me all day, but I had just assumed it was because it was our anniversary. It had actually been a day-long proposal, because by 10:15, he finally took the ring out of his pocket, looked at me and said 'Will ya?'

It was perfect and exactly how I had wanted it to go. I just didn't realize that's what was happening!
