Thursday wedding... do or don't?

Thursday wedding... do or don't?

FH and I are having a serious issue with this. We are considering a July 1st, 2010 wedding (thursday) The price difference at alot of all halls was ALOT cheaper then our dream date. It is of course better for us because we are young and on a tight budget.

Alot of our guests are coming from about 2-3 hours away. They will need to take off work early on thursday and either go very tired to work on friday or not work on friday. Should I just say, they have an STD 18months before the wedding they can figure it out, im doing whats best for us? My sister and MOH is an investment banker and can never ever take days off work. She was flipping over a friday wedding and is now saying she doesn't think she will make a thursday wedding. If she can't come then im not doing it obv.

How wrong is it to ask people to a thursday wedding? I think they have enough time to plan for it. It is such a great savings & we must have a July wedding thats not up for change, FH is a teacher and much of our family is as well.

it's really up to you if you want the thursday wedding, but what about considering another time of year? i know you want july because fh is a teacher. you can always get married around a school vacation. i'm a teacher and i'm getting married during the easter/passover vacation. i know a few other teachers that have gotten married over school vacations to save money. just something to think about.

there are 2 of us on the 2010 board that are doing it.

I personally could NOT hit the minimum # on any other day/night at Flowerfield EXCEPT for Thursday so I had to. If it was any other place, i honestly would not have considered it. My FH and my mom kept saying to do it but i wouldn't even hear of it.

Personally, majority of our guests are OOT (SC and FL with some Cali thrown in). They know about it 2 years in advance and will have to work something out. I like to think of it as a 4 day weekend (some 5 day such as the OOT). They actually all even said they didn't care what night it was..it could've been a Tuesday for all they care. They just want to see us get married

Do i still funny about a Thursday night? Yea I do, but these guys know about it 2 years in advance.

You probably will save a lot of $$ to do it that night also ( i however did not and it just brought me down to what other's were charging for a Fri/Sat night)

i hope that helps you in any way

please take no offense to this its only my opinion..having a thursday wedding will inconvience many people and the last thing you want are people leaving early at your wedding or not coming at all. i mean if your own sis won't come bc of work then think about all the rest. i know its cheaper, but do you really want your guests to be unhappy? I think you're better off with a friday wedding. but you need to do what makes you happy .

09ner here...I'm doing a Thursday night.
We have a tight budget and we landed a great deal and we took it. We did what is best for US. We are saving a lot of money and getting a lot of other things thrown in. I end up having the 2 weeks off before and after my wedding, so I know my co-workers will be there as well as friends and family.
Look at it this way Thursday night is big night to go out now a days. My wedding will end at 12 so thats not soo late. If people cant make it then they'll miss out.

this is really up to you...FH and I heard the prices for a thursday night and it was just like WOW with the price but we knew it would be inconvenient for all the guests... I know it's a tough choice specially since you are on a tight budge...but if you are really considering this day then you should before do some research with your family or so to see how you can work things out...

i don't see anything wrong w/ a thursday wedding, but if it was me, i wouldnt do it if my own sister was not able to attend my wedding...

would you be willing to look at dates in the winter? if so you could probably get a friday night from jan-march a lot cheaper than you would in july... and this way everyone will be able to attend.

so many people are doing it these days. That being said, I would avoid picking a thursday on a holiday weekend or even close to any of the holidays. Many people might want to take the friday off and on a holiday weekend a lot of companies wont pay you for the holiday if you do that. And during the holidays sometimes its hard to take any time off. I work in a small office, I can never get any time off during then.

I think you can expect that not everyone will show up to the ceremony. I've seen it looks of times when the ceremony is at 430 or 330 for a friday wedding. But I'm sure the majority will come to the reception.

Thursday is the new Friday in a lot of ways. More people are going out on Thursdays and having parties then it use to. I see nothing wrong with it at all. My parents went to one 3 weeks ago and my brother went to one this past weekend! I say book away!!!!

thursdays might be hard for some people but if you send out the save the dates it gives people plenty of time to make arrangements for it. if you are your fh are happy with it, i say go for it!

That's very true. I've seen people leave weddings right after the dinner on Thursdays. I wish I could have my wedding on a Thursday but it's just too much of an inconvience on most of my guests.
Especially if your sister would not be able to come, I'd say don't do it.

09er here..we are doing a thursday night July 2nd ...its the 4th of july weekend and the majority of my guests will be off july 3rd friday b/c of the holiday weekend...that is the only reason we are doing a thursday night!

09' crashing....
Hey Jess... I am having a Thursday wedding!!!
Honestly, if you go into NYC, everyone is doing Thursday weddings... it's kind of like giving people an 'extended vacation'! LOL And everyone goes out to happy hour Thursdays anyways! We ended up booking a Thursday because: obviously the price - I couldn't get everything else I wanted (at the place I wanted) because it was too expensive. But for a thursday I could included stuff I wanted (extra hour, chocolate fountain, martini bar...etc.) So my choice came down to: have it someplace I knew I didn't LOVE.... or have it at a place I LOVED, but just on a Thursday. Nobody in my family has commented badly upon it yet. I'm having my ceremony start late.... 7PM so that they don't really have to leave work early - and then they can just take off on Friday! And trust me... the people who love you WILL be there... because they want to!!! And you are obviously giving they a long enough time in advance for them to make arrangements! HTH!!! xoxo

Its your call. Personally, I think it does inconvience a lot of people but your closest friends and family would make it anyway. I would be more concerned with OOT b/c they have to take the next day off most likely.

I have to agree. It would be hard for people to take off Thursday and Friday (people in your bridal party, immediate family Im assuming would need the Thursday to get ready for the day and Friday to recover) If your sis wont be able to make it, I think that makes a big issue. In the end it is you and your FHs decision so do what makes you happy.

Im a teacher and personally I wouldnt care about a Thursday night wedding in the summer (because im off) other people might feel differently...I dont think there is anything wrong with it- but if I did have to go to work...I might leave a little early. IMO- I would rather go to a Thursday night wedding and either take off Friday or rough it at work then go to a Sunday night wedding.

jess.. you have to do whats best for you if your giving them pleanty of notice then its up to them to be there.. if they love you they will make arrangements... as far as savings goes.. what about a sunday.. that way people dont really have to take off unless they are like us and work sundays. but the savings are usually the same for sundays as they are for thursday. and then they would only have to worry about monday if they cant be a little tired.. know what i mean??

also just remember people will leave early b.c its a work night... so dont be upset if you notice alot of people leaving on the early side. a friend of mind got married on a thursday and we made arrangements to be there but we did leave early as well as alot of others b.c they had work the next morning.. just a FIY..

Re: Thursday wedding... do or don't?

I don't think there's anything wrong with a thursday weekend. Most people would love to have a 3 day weekend, and depending on what their job is it shouldnt be too hard if they know almost two years in advance.

The people who you REALLY want to be ther, will be there no matter what. If it works for you- do it!

Re: Thursday wedding... do or don't?

you know from reading a lot of the replies and not just on this thread (basically all the Thursday night threads) you are NEVER going to please anyone.

Honestly, seeing the word 'inconvenience' bothers me for reason. You never see people say that having it on Friday night is an 'inconvenience' b/c of people who have to work Saturdays or leave work early. Oh and what about Saturday night? What about the people who have church Sunday morning, work on Sunday or something to that extent.

For people to flat out complain that it's a Thursday night, why even bother going? (In some of these responses posted you'll see what I mean).

Now i'm not trying to start an argument or anything like that, i'm just stating MY opinion.
