i went today to book my church and the only times allowed were 1130 and 530. My CH starts at 630 and i don't think me and 8 BMs can be ready by 1130 (plus leave time to have pics done before the ceremony) and also have people waiting around for 6 hours until the reception. I really had my heart set on this place but I think I am going to have to look elsewhere. How much time is everyone else leaving between ceremony and reception?

Re: time between ceremony and reception
I had about a 3 hour gap in between. Our ceremony was at 3 and CH at 7
If you are going to do pics before hand then you might be able to pull of the 530 ceremony (not a mass tho its too long) depending on how far away your RH is.

Re: time between ceremony and reception
mass at the church starts at 4:00 and my cocktail hour starts at 8:00
I think the time they are giving you is either too early or too late... consider looking at other ones. I also had my heart set on this particular church but they were giving me 10:30 12:00 or 2:00 and those times didnt work out for me so I just searched for other churches in my area and I like the one I found they are giving me better options =) i am very happy. You might find a better one too... Good Luck!

Re: time between ceremony and reception
My ceremony is at 230 and my cocktail hour starts at 630. We plan on trying to get all or at least most of our pics done before cocktail hour starts. I think you would have enough time to take pics. My family will probably have people at their house between ceremony and reception and then meet us at like 530-600 to take family pics.

My ceremony will be at 10:30am w/o a mass and my CH starts at 1. i figure that will be enough time to take pictures...
i would consider looking into other churches because i think those times are either too early or late.. if you could get something around 3 that would be ideal!

Re: time between ceremony and reception
i read in this month's bride's magazine that you shouldn't leave more than an hour between your ceremony and cocktail hour because the guests get restless. if you decide to have a large gap in between i would make sure you have a plan for them (especially for your out of towners if you have any- drinks and snacks at someone's house or something) i would think about the large gap and whether it will discourage anyone from coming to the church- if anyone has to drive a long distance to the church and back to home to drive back again just stuff to consider!

Re: time between ceremony and reception
My wedding is set to begin at 2:00 and then CH at 6:00. That'll probably end up leaving a 2 to 3 hour break between. But that's only because I'm old fashioned and won't let the groom see me before the wedding! lol. So we're gonna be doing our pictures during that 'waiting' time frame.

That is definitely something to consider. However, in my personal experience it was never really a problem when there's a gap between the ceremony & reception. Pretty much everybody coming expects that since it's usual for the BP to be doing the pictures during that time. When I'm faced with that delema (as a guest) and I'm too far from home to go get changed and such, me and some friends will usually go out for a drink or something while we wait (as long as the wait isn't CRAZY long). Sometimes that's nice. You're all dressed up and ya just kinda hang and chat for a bit. It's really not that big a deal to have that gap in between if you need it. But I do understand the concerns. That actually IS a really good idea to consider having snacks and such at somebody's house. I guess it depends on the people you're inviting.

Re: time between ceremony and reception
My wedding ceremony is from 3:30-4:30. My cocktail hour starts at 6:30 and the reception starts at 8pm.
We are getting married at a hotel and have the CH and Reception there too. So the hotel is giving us two hospitality rooms (basically, chairs and a TV and some soft drinks) between 4:30 and 6:30pm for those guests not staying at the hotel.
