Time between Ceremony & Reception

Time between Ceremony & Reception

My wedding ceremony will be at 12:30pm at my church. From what people have told me, the church ceremony and receiving line will last about an hour. Afterwards, I will go straight to the reception site for pictures with my bridal party, and the church is 1/2 hour away from the reception site so maybe we'll arrive around 2. I am able to set the reception for any time I think best - but I want to have it as a dinner reception, so what time frame is appropriate to begin cocktail hour (that's not too early to eat, and not too late for having left OOT guests waiting)???

How about 4:00 or 4:30pm? You want to give yourself some extra time to travel and for anthing else, so let's say the wedding and receiving line is done by 1:30pm. You may want to take some pictures at the church, so let's say you get at the hall at 2:30pm. I would give at least 2 hours to take pictures...

You could always do a 4pm - say your church ends at 1:30, you take some photos at the church, travel 1/2 hour brings you to about 2:15 or so, then you have two solid hours for photos. If you are concerned about the time gap, even 3:30 is good. I think the time gap is ok because people will find ways to kill time - I personally like having a little gap because I want to be done w/ photos so I can enjoy the cocktail hour & mingle.
