How much time is too much? Our reception is currently planned for 7-12 on a Friday (keep in mind its July 4th so no one will be working. My church said 530 but I dont like the person I was speaking to. I was thinking 4, is that okay? Would any earlier be appropriate?
Oh, there's also about a 15-20 min drive to the reception hall from the church.

Re: Time between church and reception
I think 5:00 would be perfect if you're having a ceremony - you'll be out by 6:00 and still have enough time to get to the reception at 7:00.

We also want to take pics in between and we want to be able to attend at least 1/2 of our cocktail hour.

i would do 4, to make sure you have enough time, aren't rushed, and can still enjoy your cocktail hour

I think 4, or 4:30 at the latest would be best since you want to take pictures in between but still make it to cocktail hour. That way it's early enough that you won't be rushed.
